This has been discussed before, but the Sord M5/Casio PV-2000 and SG-1000 versions of Galaga are very similar. There's a reason for that: They were done by the same programmer at Namco.
In 2017, Naoki Horii of M2 tweeted a page from Game Studio's first newsletter. (Game Studio was a development company started by Xevious creator Masanobu Endo.) It features a profile of Kazuo Kurosu, a former Namco programmer who was now working for this company, and includes a list of games he worked on at Namco. Among them are the M5 versions of Galaga and the SG-1000 version of Galaga. https://twitter.com/hor11/status/883889109172854785 This was apparently part of a home video game development business plan initiated by Namco called "PS Project." https://twitter.com/Area51_zek/status/928629314941198337 Why was the SG-1000 version of Galaga called "Sega-Galaga?" It might have been because a guitar company called Kanda Shokai had the trademark for Galaga. If you look at the PV-2000 version (see tweet below), you'll see they licensed the name from Kanda Shokai. The others ("Galax" for the M5 and "Sega-Galaga") presumably did not. https://twitter.com/DentoTeramachi/status/883336426841964546 |

They didn't want to condense a few letters and name it Segalaga? :) | |
