SG-1000 II rebranded prototype? (CGC Home Terebi Game / Asobi no Tensai)

I got my hands on a strange rebranded SG-1000 II that is a total mystery.

- The box is totally white. It is the same size and material as a regular SG-1000 II box.

- Instead of regular SEGA SG-1000 II logo and text (see http://www.google.com/images?hl=en&q=sg-1000%20II ) this has no mention of Sega on the front.

It says:

Which reads as:
CGC Home Terebi Game
Asobi no Tensai
Sega no sofuto shiyo

Roughly translated as:
CGC Home TV Game
Genius' play
Use with Sega software

The mystery comes from the fact that although "CGC Home Terebi Game" and "Asobi no Tensai" sounds like brand or event names, I cannot find any information about it on the internet (there's barely proper matches for those terms).

- Joypads have no label as well.

The rest seems like regular SG-1000 II.

I will do more research and ask Japanese people if they know anything.
Nice treasure :)

The only CGC that I know from memory (and confirmed through Google) is the supermarket chain all around Japan (and in China; other countries?). So it's possible they released a CGC-branded Sega system for who knows what reason.

I got a comment from Sega VC's okunari:

謎のSG-1000IIは初めて見ました。当時は"ニューメディア"の名の下にイベントが多数催されていたのでそういったイベント会場で使われた機械なのではないでしょうか。

"It is the first time I see this mysterious SG-1000 II. At that time, there were many events organized by "New Media". Maybe it is a machine used during those events?

So looks like there is more than one of these, sourced this from Japan, no box lid included but essentially all the same features as yours Bock, would be good to know the story behind this.

@Bock, thanks for the plug!

If anyone wants more pictures for preservation let me know.

Plus if anyone is interested in buying drop me a message, I’m not expecting the advertised price!

Found this on twitter while looking for super rare megadrive stuff :p

https://x.com/jironosuke99/status/1312758443506241536

He doesn't know more than us about the system's origin :p
Could someone transcript what is written on the paper sheet ?

From one of the replies in that thread;

I think this was given away as part of a campaign by a supermarket group called CGC. I think it was around 1985.

A friend of mine (although that may be a bit misleading since we weren't on good terms) had it.

I remember there was a small poster, about A4 size, in my local supermarket.
I think you applied by mailing the postcard distributed in the store or by putting it in the application box in the store, and you didn't have to attach a receipt or anything...
I remember that in a contest just before the release of the Mark Ⅲ , the pad buttons were made of the same plastic as the Mark Ⅲ (the regular SG1000 Ⅱ is made of rubber).
