Monster Joystick for SMS

Hi all, there aren't many options when it comes to finding an arcade stick for your SMS, and I haven't seen these mentioned on this forum yet. I built 2 Mini Monster Joysticks during the Xmas holidays and thought I'd show them off here. I designed some cover art which would fit in well with a Master System. They include real arcade parts by Sanwa with various colour choices, there is another model with cheaper unbranded red ones but still with good quality.

Hey, thanks for your interest! One is for me and the other one is a retrogaming buddy's belated Xmas present, but I'll gladly share the cover file if you're fine with building yours ;)

I will post the link to the official website in the next post, as this is my third one!

Wow, well done! They actually look much better than the Control Stick.

These look gorgeous!

I don't know why I've never thought of making better quality controllers before using quality switches.

Yes I never found the Control Stick looked very appealing either. Plus watching CGR's review on it, I realised it was about the size of a Mega Drive pad XD

The other two I know of are the QuickShot and Ascii, but I think that's it...? Plus Mega Drive sticks.

Are you willing to share the artwork you used?

These could be a good replacement for the Micomsoft XE1-ST, which is probably the best stick I’ve used. Unlike the Micomsoft stick, you can’t easily rotate the gate from an 8-position to a 4-position (which makes games like Wonder Boy in Monster Land and Ms. Pac-Man and Bank Panic so much nicer to play), but I’ve confirmed that the gate can be rotated on the Monster Joystick by opening the case up.

Oh, I didn't know that one!

Here's my cover file. A PDF template is also provided on their site.

Happy New Year!

Thanks for the graphics! What material did you print them on?

I went to a print shop and asked for a couple of prints on a paper thick enough not to go wrinkly with the ink (or ambient humidity within a couple of years), and they offered one which was not only thick but also a bit glossy, so I guess less spongey as well.

And as all their printing this size was done on laser printers anyway, there was no ink humidity problem. However the red came out a bit too dark for my taste, so if you're going to print it in a shop, it's probably better to have a test print on normal paper to adjust the colour first.
