How do you play these ROMs? in particular Road Fighter. Its my favorite MSX game so I'd quite like to play it on my Master System, but it doesn't even seem to work in Meka.

You need to be using a recent beta from the forums.

Different mappers and/or the plug-in RAM expanding cartridge. They may be hackable to work on a stock SMS flashcart with a little luck. Everdrive support for Korean/Taiwanese stuff is mostly very bad.

i don’t know if anyone tried similar experience:
- from the Road Fighter (tw, not jumbo-tw), extract the first 16kb (from 0x0000 to 0x3FFF)
- after this extraction, concatenate 16kb of an msx1 rom, like Time Pilot
- try to open the resulting 32kb .sg file in an emulator

the result on Time Pilot is quite interesting, the title appears and the ship flies over the clouds, but it is plenty of glitches (i confess i love glitches, but they are not supposed to appear there! :D ), and we can’t play that at all! :D

on that one, which patches might be needed to have it playable, and working as a “minimal decent” conversion? and how difficult would be to convert all that hundreds of msx1 games to sg1000 then? ;)

(btw, it’s quite interesting that the same method didn’t work on Konami’s Tennis - and Hyper Rally seems to work perfectly...)

these games seems to work using this conversion method (and are not yet tagged/listed at http://www.smspower.org/Tags/MSXPort ) :
- Hyper Rally
- Hyper Sports 1
- Hyper Sports 3
- Konami’s Billiards
- Pooyan

this bash script seems enough for the conversion:
dd ibs=1 count=$((0x4000)) skip=$((0x0000)) if=RoadFighterTW.sg of=twheader16kb.bin
cat twheader16kb.bin HyperRally_msx1.rom > HyperRally.sg
cat twheader16kb.bin HyperSports1_msx1.rom > HyperSports1.sg
cat twheader16kb.bin HyperSports3_msx1.rom > HyperSports3.sg
cat twheader16kb.bin KonamisBilliards_msx1.rom > KonamisBilliards.sg
cat twheader16kb.bin Pooyan_msx1.rom > Pooyan.sg
cat twheader16kb.bin Crusader_msx1.rom > Crusader.sg
cat twheader16kb.bin WarpAndWarp_msx1.rom > WarpAndWarp.sg
cat twheader16kb.bin Bosconian_msx1.rom > Bosconian.sg

“This message will auto destruct itself someday.” ;D

btw, please let us know how fine these games run on real hardware

i guess it is because (afaik) everdrive has no konami’s megarom mapper available yet, only the default sega’s mapper - i guess next everdrive firmware might need a mapper option, or being able to automatically detect when possible

Great trick. Using hacks from different games and hackers I got nearly all of the Konami games to work, including Tennis, Golf, Baseball, and Football. Q*Bert MSX version is quite different to the SG-1000 version, I think I prefer it. Mahjong runs nicely, but is keyboard only, so can't be played. Synthesizer doesn't work, but that came with a tape aswell, and probably requires the keyboard anyway. I couldn't get Game Master to boot either, but I think it's just a Japanese quiz game. Super Cobra is glitchy like Time Pilot. It might just be a case of finding the right hack, compatibility varies by quite a bit.

I've also had good success with Namcot and Compile games. Crusader, Final Justice, and Swing from Compile seem to work fine. For Namcot Bosconian, Dig Dug, Galaga, King & Balloon, Mappy, Mini Golf, Pac-Man, and Warp Warp all work. Also, some random ones like Star Blazer work.

I mainly tested with HiCom's hacks for E.I. - Exa Innova and Athletic Land.

Nice find, nitrofurano! Is it also possible to do the opposite and convert SG-1000 games to MSX or ColecoVision by injecting them into a MSX or ColecoVision rom?

thanks! there are actually sg1000 games converted to msx1, but it seems a little bit more complicated (it might need to be loaded into the sub-ram area between 0x0000 and 0x7FFF, have the needed adjustments related to i/o ports, and use ay-3-8910 instead of sn76489 ) - and colecovision has an “useless” bios between 0x0000 and 0x3FFF, and ram located between 0x7000 and 0x7FFF - i think that the simpler conversion is actually from msx1 to sg1000/mastersystem

SG to MSX or Coleco is already possible, go search it up. It has all the stuff. :-)
You might want to also edit the SG ROM.
