Here's the attempt I did, and also, here are the pack of other MSX games on the Xyzolog loader (please note that a tiny bit of these games does not work on the loader). These are only 8 or 16kB games. Enjoy! Request me if you want any MSX game that is 8 or 16kB that won't work on the SMS. You can also patch them with bsittler's Xyzolog SG2GG hack, even you can patch the Sky Jaguar attempt with the Yie Ar Kung-Fu SG2GG hack (if it's there). :-)
Use start to get the title and game working for Sky Jaguar.

It's really funny to see MSX games running on a real MASTER SYSTEM

From the tests I did we can say that 60 games converted work with EVERDRIVE
2 loaders runs well on EVERDRIVE :
- CLOVER
- HI-COM

I would like to succeed in running MAGICAL KID WID and PLANET MOBILE with EVERDRIVE

I'm waiting to see if other loader will come out

I can post a ready-to-use pack for EVERDRIVE
Tell me if it's allowed?

The reason why you think it's kinda funny is because they both use the same Z80 processor, even for Game Gear and SG-1000. These loaders were basically from the 1980s in Korea, they were discontinued after all the game ideas. I have played Magical Kid Wiz, but not Planet Mobile, I might try that game.

Hey, wait a minute... I did try this game. There are MSX2SMS people that did this game. If you want, I can do both these games, too. Also, DahJee, Aaronix, Jumbo, or Joy Soft (including the Xyzolog loader, maybe it's from Samsung themselves) didn't work for you?

On the emulators almost all the conversions work but on EVERDRIVE a lot of conversions does not work

MAGICAL KID WIZ and PLANET MOBILE work on emulator
MAGICAL KID WIZ and PLANET MOBILE doesn't work on EVERDRIVE

Planet mobile is known as Mobile Planet Suthirus

Hola, I am very interested too. MSX2 has good games, and It would be awesome playing those games on our favourite consoles.

I assuming it would be dependent on the game and if they can be downsampled enough.
Like doesn't MSX2 have a baseline RAM/VRAM size much larger than the SMS?
And the one MSX2 game I worked on used what is basically a 16-color bitmap mode. Something I believe SMS doesn't support?

Okay, as I'm searching, the SMS / Game Gear uses 16 colors or colours for the people in that country inside a sprite, but 64 color palettes inside the video chip, the MSX has 256 to 512 colors in total. So, the MSX2 might be impossible to do, or maybe possible if it is.

Hello Stokes, yes we like MSX2 games running in SMS !

16 Colors to Background and 16 Colors to Sprites, selectable from 64 colors depth, would be possible to downgrade 512 to 64 selectable as we do with Game Gear to Master System ports, (4096 to 64)

I now commercial games are using 16 color palette, then would be possible duplicate palette for background and sprites and downgrade from 512 to 64

What do you think?

https://www.msx.org/wiki/VDP_Color_Palette_Registers

Need to capture when game is setting palettes and do a call $XXXX to conversion routine MSX2SMS palette, theoretically, in practice it will depend on the complexity and space of the rom to reprogram

If you guys want, you can port the MSX2 games also and show the work you've done. I'm interested in that too. I'm doing it Zemina style, like Nemesis 2.

Thank you for this topic ;)

Here a list of conversion I tried (only with Road Fighter TW 16 first ko).
Note that I'm not testing games of 128ko and over.

Hey, while we try to figure this out, why not give me a request of some of these BAD files (only 8 or 16 kilobytes) and let me put it on the Xyzolog loader. Also, how about other MSX games like Parodius or R-Type, any 128 to any kilobytes.

R-Type needs mapper conversion of course, but it also accesses hardware without using the BIOS I believe, including a check for FM-PAC in slot 2 and possibly IO, so likely needs extra patching. I think the optional FM music should be portable to SMS FM at least in terms of chips used. Also SMS R-Type seems better in many ways, though MSX one can use PSG and FM simultaneously which is pretty neat

Okay, so maybe Parodius if I can get it to work like Zemina's Nemesis port.

Thanks!
I just learnt that I can't play this game on my Mega Drive as it doesn't support legacy video modes. =(

Because bluemsx core from PS3 Retroarch didn't work with keyboard games I couldn't play it but now that you converted it to SMS perhaps it will work on Genesis Plus GX core with my joystick.

I will try it there then. =D

PS: It worked!

Perhaps you could convert also Artic Adventure and Penguim Adventure?

Yeah, Sega should've used the video mode, but, since they've used their own video for Mega Drive / Genesis, it supports SMS color. Glad that Athletic Land works.

Zemina, also a Korean company, ported Penguin Adventure to the SMS with their code changes, you can download it Here.

I might try to see if I can fix the glitch bugs for Antarctic Adventure.

as i think that we should separate this thread into two different threads, since converting msx1 games to sg1000 (and sms by retrocompatibility) is significantly different than converting msx2 games to sms, i started this one: https://www.smspower.org/forums/18087-MSX2ToSMSConversionsNotMSXToSG1000

as commented there, converting msx2 games to sms is almost totally remaking the game, and needing to analyze the z80 disassembling listing deeply, at least for locating where the graphics part is, and remaking that totally since sms uses mostly hardware tiles, and msx2 "screen 5" (mostly used on msx2 games) uses vdp dma-like commands for simulating that, which both are structured in a totally different way, not mentioning also how sprites are structured (sms sprites are 4bitdepth, and msx2 sprites are 1bitdepth with 1 color per line, and allowing boolean "or" colours when sprites are overlapped, as shown at https://www.msx.org/wiki/The_OR_Color )

Police Story has been converted to the SMS. I can redo both of these games, although I need to find Project A, Spartan X is only in cassette and disk format, maybe someone soon will convert the game to ROM format, but it seems to not exist. Even Project A is in cassette.

I got source from Alibaba and 40 Thieves, you guys can always convert a MSX game with the MSX code sources and convert it into SMS.
Enjoy! :-)

Probably.

Wafer, I did convert C-BIOS. I should've thought of this for a long time. Here are some screenshots. Plus, I got Pac-Man working for the first time. :-D
I haven't added the SN76489 yet, but I will do that soon.
UPDATE: C-BIOS for Master System is a great success, it runs a lot of the games you guys have done for the SMS. I will send it in soon.

You can merge MSX games with this emulator, this still doesn't have the SN76489 programmed yet, but this is a beta.
You can merge the logo if the game is either 8 (might need to turn the game into 16kB) or 16kB, or you don't have to.
But anyways here. Enjoy! :-)

it's OK now with the half version
I try 16ko an 32Ko Games (8 games) on my Master System
Eggerland an Rambo doesn't work

I hope to quickly see the version with the audio

Is it planned to run MEGAROMS (128Ko, 256Ko, 512Ko) ?

Okay, Eggerland and Rambo doesn't seem to work out with the Master System code. I might see if I can edit it. I will do the SN76489 soon, and I will see if it does run Mega-ROM games.
