Master System 2 mainboard - wire on back
Post Posted: Tue May 26, 2020 11:21 pm
I recently bought a bashed up SMS2 to use on a Raspberry Pi project. It was sold as untested but I tested it and it works so this won't be getting chucked for a Pi project now. The thing was filthy. Suspect back of an old ladies garage or attic based on the perfumery mustiness.

Anyway, I've taken it apart to give it a clean and noticed a single wire on the back of the mainboard. I've done some googling but can't find out what this is for. Can't tell if the previous owner did this or if it came like this from Sega. It's a 1990 manufactures board.

I thought it maybe related to the 50/60hz mode but there's no switch and it sounds like standard 50hz to me.

Any ideas?

I am pretty sure the ones I have taken apart have this wire. Likely something they had to fix after manufacture

it's called a "bodge wire", and it's really common in electronics. Basically, it didn't test right during QA, so they traced the fault, found it to be fixable, and "bodged" it up. I think you see it less often these days due to the neverending shrinkage of circuitry, but I'm sure it happens.
