General consensus seems to be that it's horrific...

Probably.
Just as games based on licenses are generally regarded as terrible until proven innocent, so are movies based on games.
Not sure if there have been any game-based movies regarded as "good".

The superhero films might as well be based on videogames; they bind the pyrotechnics of a modern PlayStation game to the characterisation and plot of an Atari 2600 title.

... but seriously, Jim Carrey — presumably in manic mode — as a live-action Dr Robotnik? And a joint product of five separate production companies? Red flags aplenty.

Sega of today please....die....just die.
Wheres Gordon Gecko when you need him to buy up a company and sell off the pieces?

RIP Sonic and O.G. Sega, who died in 2001-2002.

EDIT: from IMDB:
Budget: $90,000,000 (estimated)

think of how many people could be fed on that. or retro video games restored, designed, etc. <<shakes head>>

It's not you. He looks very wrong. In fact, Paramount had to redesign Sonic after fan backlash.

Sonic looks absolutely terrible and just wrong. Jim Carrey as Eggman is pretty strange too. They´re killing everything, they killed the Smurfs too years ago, but the list is endless. I keep Sonic in good memories without killing him with that piece of crap.

Hollywood wont stop until they chisel money out of everything we've known and loved. While Sonic's design is absolutely horrible, it's not any more horrible than anything else they've done lately. I mean, look at Star Trek: Discovery. It basically defecates on everything Star Trek has ever been about when they turned it into harrypotter-esque fantasy derp.

best regards,

I went and saw the movie tonight and it was quite a good movie. Not horrific at all.

The final CG Sonic looked good.

Jim Carrey does a good Robotnik.

Worth seeing IMHO.

I agree with this, not amazing but certainly not bad. Loved Jim Carrey in it actually, reminded me of some of his old slapstick characters and managed to not be annoying with it. At the end I was left wanting to know what happened to Robotnik next (and also what happens with our little fox friend that shows up).

Yes, I thought it was a good movie. I hope there is a sequel.
