WTB: Tec Toy SMS w/74 Games Built-In Version
Post Posted: Tue Feb 25, 2020 5:15 am
Hi all,

I'm looking to buy the Tec Toy Master System edition with the 74 built-in games and working cartridge slot.

I will take any one I can get. I will even buy just the console itself as long as it's functional, in acceptable condition, and reasonably priced.

Thank you!

Hi Insomniac,

In Brazil a lot of TecToy stuff is sold in Mercado Livre.

You can browse current MS III offers here:

https://games.mercadolivre.com.br/consoles/master-system-3

And there is this console:

https://produto.mercadolivre.com.br/MLB-814767968--master-system-3-completo-e-co...

I help people on these forums to buy stuff from ML, Bock can assure quality of my service.

Actually there is no offering for your specific console CIB but we can keep looking if there is no good auction for you now.

Let me know if you need help!

One arrived, thanks very much Niloct!

Master EverDrive X7 works just fine in these.

It seems like the VDP implementation in this might be Mega Drive-like, since it doesn't support TMS9918 video modes, but the game keeps running (sound only, black screen.)

Video output is 60 Hz PAL as expected, with no RGB. My low-end LCD TV handles this encoding just fine, thankfully. I was curious about RGB possibilities, since the port only has composite video pins connected. So I opened it, but unsurprisingly it's more or less the same as the different Master System 3 Collection model described many years ago here: https://www.smspower.org/forums/5291-PicturesOfTheNewSMS3CollectionButchered#242...

This one (as expected given the listing) is somewhat the worse for wear, with evidence of a previous hot glue repair and only two of the outer case screws remaining, but that at least made disassembly faster!

Inside it's an Altera MAX CPLD (with top partly sanded to make identification harder, though with appropriate lighting and viewing angle it was still fully readable — it's EPM3064ATC100-10, a now-obsolete CPLD for which datasheets are still readily available, e.g. from Mouser https://www.mouser.com/datasheet/2/612/m3000a-1299426.pdf ), a mystery "ATT6001" chip, a Macronix chip I can't find any info on but which I assume is a memory (the pins are continuous with solder pads that would allow a physically larger package to be substituted), and a few lower-pin count packages I have not yet identified.

No idea yet whether RGB is hiding somewhere in there, but I'm not really hopeful given the design. The memory containing the built-in games+menus could probably be dumped nondestructively somehow using the extra solder pads, but without a datasheet the pinout is still a mystery.

edit: also I can vouch for Niloct's services being excellent from start to finish, and if dealing with Mercado Livre or a lack of Portuguese fluency is preventing you from incorporating some examples of the incredible Brazilian TecToy/Sega 8-bit and 16-bit legacy into your collection I encourage you to reach out to him. Expect it to take quite some time given current global circumstances, of course!

I want to thank Niloct for a smooth transaction. He genuinely cared and wanted to make sure I got the best deal. He's a good guy and very trustworthy.

I hope to do business with him again once this pandemic has passed.

Alright. It's very encouraging helping users to fulfill their collections.

I'm glad that I can help even when this clashes sometimes with my daily job.
