Actually, I forgot I did work on something small that does fit perfectly fine within the limitations. Nothing too exciting.
It is a quick conversion of a separate artists sketch over to the Master System - except it was suppose to be for the Mega Drive, but I got frustrated the colours weren't working, and somehow Master System colours forced better colours out of me. Sketch artist can be found in the URL linked, and on Twitter. Everything posted with permission! |

Bumping this topic, but.
As a few people in the Discord knew, I had been planning to enter the 2020 SMSPower! art contest. But nobody else really entered, which was both a bit of a surprise and a bit of a shame, but, ah well! So I invalidated the two entries I'd entered since nobody else entered. I'll post the two images I worked on with friends here anyway. We wanted to make these pictures on the Master System as pretty as possible! They both fit inside the VRAM snugly without pulling any trickery that needs disabling the sprite table. Inside a single palette line, too, since we were being careful with colours. ____ The first image was a collaboration between a friend of mine called Dreamtrove and myself. It actually happened quite by accident - they were running a sketch art stream, and they realized their request queue had run out, so I gave them a proposal and they liked it. Then the end result came through, and I was like "Hey, this would actually go great on the Master System", and we worked together trying to redraw the picture for it. It skirts the idea of being a fully original entry, but at the time it was done, I hadn't had any better ideas of what to submit. The image is below. Click on the image for the fully sized, and aspect correct (ie. fairly close to how it should look on a TV) version. It will only properly fit inside the PAL "New" VDP's 240-tall mode. And should fit VERY snugly inside 442 tiles, taking advantage of the spare unused 64 bytes inside the SAT. The character in the image is a placeholder character I've used for various projects since 2009. It's also an utter nightmare to work into the Master System's 6-bit RGB palette - no useful cream or brown colours. I wanted to take advantage of that to attempt a technical achievement in trying to light this. ____ The second image was a proper, much more formal entry between myself and a friend of mine called Flynn-B - who lacks any proper social media I can link to in this post, we're working on that - done with the explicit, set, solid intent to the entered into the SMSPower! 2020 contest. From start to finish. We started from sketches my end, then proper linework his end, and then a few revisions until we resulted at a final linework. From which I proceeded to convert over to being drawn for the Master System. His linework will also be attached to this post, because I think it's absolutely gorgeous, and has additional details I was unable to redraw over towards the Master System. Please check the linework out in the attachments! The image is below. Click on the image for the fully sized, and aspect correct (ie. fairly close to how it should look on a TV) version. It should work on all Master System VDP revisions, as well as any Mega Drive consoles that support Mode 4. It comes to exactly 448 tiles, without needing to use up the spare 64 bytes inside the SAT. It was drawn with the deliberate intent of showing off the powerful and strong lighting contrasts that the Master System is capable of. The irony that the image is lit, in an artistic sense, is incredibly cheated. ____ We tried our best to make the picture as pretty as possible. We wanted to show off what the machine can do, even though we're still fairly amateur at showing off the machine. It's a shame nobody else entered this year's contest. Maybe there will be better luck in 2021. I'd love to see some SG-1000/SC-3000 and Game Gear entries! (Are there any gamma ramp measurements for Game Gear screens?) |

I would have loved to enter the art competition, but all of my artwork goes directly into the games. I just don't do seperate pieces. (Same with music.)
However, your contributions are really well done, thanks for sharing. Maybe they'll inspire someone to accept a challenge and do some artwork for the SMS. |

I really love all the works shared in this thread. Is there a tool to convert them into SMS ROM files for display from an EverDrive? Are they already released this way somewhere? | |

Not original art, just an edit, but a while back tried adapting Gods tiles to SMS specs. Some tile counts are excessive but I think they could be consolidated sufficiently.

you can have a fullscreen image without repeating tiles when you use only 4 colours |
