Best Golf game on SMS?
Post Posted: Thu Jun 13, 2019 5:45 pm
Hi,

which is the best golf game on the Master System? I've tried Golfamania and is quite good, what about the SMS version of PGA Tour Golf that in the Megadrive version is simply great?

And the Game gear versions? I've seen there's PGA Tour Golf I and II any opinions?

Thanks

Hi mate,

I´m not a golf fan to be honest, but there are some more golf games: Great Golf and Sega World Tournament Golf (which is a little tricky to find). I hope that helps you a little regarding your search for the best game.

Cheers,
Gord

edit: There´s also World Class Leaderboard.

Oh no really? Cause some times ago I found it in a shop and thought it was a cheap not interesting game and didn't buy it. :(

PGA Tour Golf seems good but the rendering time of the courses is quite heavy. I'd say from review the GG versions are "lighter" or maybe just a feeling.

Thanks. I always liked golf and played it a bit in the past but too much expensive as a free time sport. :D
The megadrive version of PGA Tour Golf I is amazing, the soundtrack is so powerful. But I just modded my second SMSII lately so it's nice to play on it too even if I got the power base converter (and also the Megadrive II converter version too :)
Original consoles feels always better anyway.

I second this, but the Game Gear version.

Shameless plug (semi-TAS).

At the end I bought the (quite expensive) PGA Tour Golf for the SMS with box and manual. Oh yeah! :D

I'll write my opinions as soon I'll received it. :)

I played a few Golf games back in the day but I only owned Golfamania which I loved at the time!

The best was (and still is) Sega World Tournament Golf. It has the best graphics and controls of all SMS golf games. It has only two courses, but their total distance can be longer or shorter, depending of the starting point of the tee and the sticks you choose (these things can be selected by the player, as well as the difficulty level).

There are also options to play Foursome and Fourball. In my opinion, not even the great Golfamania could overshadow this gem!

Putt and Putter, without a doubt. I love that game, as brutal as it is.

Japanese Great Golf which is a total different game to the Western release of the same name. It's a fun little game, not a simulation but it's a game I have a lot of time for. One course is basically a sand bunker with loads of cacti on it. Check it out...

Isn't this the one which has only overhead graphics?
