Sega Master System Official Club Magazine by Tony Takoushi

... sorry. Can't post a link as apparently I still count as a recent member...
If you google "Sega Master System Official Club Magazine by Tony Takoushi", you will find an old ebay auction selling four issues of said magazine. Has anyone heard of this magazine? I couldn't find any information about it. |

I guess it's the precursor to S? Can someone grab the images for preservation purposes? |

Attached. Nice find.
Wish I knew about this, I would have bid on them! (I barely search on eBay anymore because it's too overwhelming, but I'd get anything useful if pointed to). I wonder who got it.. for such a high price it must be someone fairly obsessed with the SMS too :) Marsil: yes the forum is configured to enable links after 3 posts, we had to do that because we had too many spam bots :( |

Well, it was me. At that time I wasn't obsessed with the SMS at all, but rather a collector of video game magazines and newsletters. If anyone is interested, I can scan the magazines. They only have a couple of pages each, so no effort. |

Here's the first issue. As I said, only a couple of pages (even less that the US based Sega Newsletter).

Issue 2

Here's the second issue.

Thank you Marsil, there wasn't much information printed in this era of Sega so these are great sources. I look forward to seeing more

Sorry, you have reached your maximum Upload Quota Limit of 25 MB
Bock or Maxim, is there anything you can do about this? |
|
|

Upgraded your quota. When we move those files to the Scans area we'll also delete your attachments here, so for now it's perfect to upload the PNG files. Thanks again! |

In the mail section: “Dear Sega, I love Sega games but will there be many third party games for your system?”..... ouch.

Thanks again Marsil, do you have issue 4 as well?

I've been adding them to the site and OCRing as I go:
http://www.smspower.org/Scans/SegaMasterSystemOfficialClubMagazine-Magazine The issue 3 scans seem to be worse quality than the first two, is there some difference in the way they were scanned? There's some blurring and what looks like lower quality resizing. |

A few observations...
* It's obviously very partisan. The reviews are always super positive. * The £5 "membership fee" was a lot for what you got... * Issue 2 was where the (much later) release of the Mega Drive started to be mentioned... it's weird to think that at the time, it was normal to have a 2-year gap between Japanese and European launches. * Issue 3 mentions upcoming games including: ** Walter Payton Football and Reggie Jackson Baseball before they de-licenced them ** "Warrior Quest" which apparently became Spellcaster ** Mis-spelled Gollvellius and Cybourg Hunter * Issue 3 has a preview of a prototype of Galaxy Force, and talk of Sega User Clubs getting to see prototypes, suggesting first-party prototypes were sent to the UK in 1988 Oh, and in case you didn't know who Tony Takoushi is, he was well known at the time for C&VG magazine and particularly its console section, Mean Machines; here's an interview from a few years ago about the old days: http://www.meanmachinesmag.co.uk/interview/10/tony-takoushi.php |

For some reason they've stretched the "G" in the Sega logo.

Sorry for the long silence. I've been on vacation on Gran Canaria for the past weeks. For some reason, the hotel WiFi blocked the captcha thus preventing me from posting here.
I'll rescan the third issue and I also have the forth issue. Hopefully I'll manage to do it on Sunday. |

Thanks for uploading these, I’ve never seen the contents of issue 3 or 4 before. I actually have the t shirt from issue 1, only recently found out it was from this magazine |

Really looking forward to seeing it |

In one of the issues we can read:
"one chip as more than 250 pin" !!!! SO.. that as to be bad ass !!!!! Man tose days, even the pins on the IC's chips count as a weapon for witch one is better.. |

Issue 3 - rescanned

Hello. Sorry for the long silence. I finally got my scanner back, rescanned issue 3 and scanned issue 4. Enjoy :)
I have some other Sega newsletters including Sega Zone (Australia, missing 1st issue), Sega Action (Australia, complete), Team Sega Challenge Newsletter (USA, complete). I can scan them as well if there is interest. |

Thanks! I'll add them to the site in my usual slow way...

Great to see issue 4, better late than never, thank you Marsil.
Can I ask does anyone have any idea whether issue 4 was definitely the last issue? Or is there evidence suggesting further issues may exist? |
|
|
Posted: Tue Aug 27, 2019 4:50 pm |
Definitely only 4 'stand alone' issues. The newsletter was mentioned in issue 1 of S magazine and became a monthly feature but was discontinued before S mag (12 issues) became Sega Power (from issue 13).
|

I noticed something today: all 4 issues in their title have a spelling mistake!
They all say "THE OFFICAL SEGA CLUB" ("Offical" instead of "Official") check it out above.. |
