Don't know if it's been mentionned before, but I heard about it on some Japanese site and in Sega Arcade History book.

There's a scarce arcade cabinet / board in Japan that allows to play to 5 Master System games:

Marksman Shooting
Fantasy Zone
Gangster Town
Shooting Gallery
Black Belt

I can't find picture of the cabinet now but I'll post if I do.

The arcade board was auctionned yesterday (me stupid bidded too low):

Attached are the pictures.

I suppose that the board is a standard early SMS 1 allowing to play any games, but those games were standard in the cabinet, with dedicated artwork and light phaser plugged in.

The big question is: If it's a Japanese arcade system, why aren't the games Mark III cartridges?

I don't know.
On another hand, for a dedicated arcade system, I don't think it would have mattered. Maybe Sega thought it was even better if the system was not compatible with Japanese cartridges, not discourage game switching by arcade owners.

Well, maybe I got overboard saying it is Japanese only, but I only heard of that from Japanese source.

Tera's website says this:

Notice how it mention that the games were often switched by arcade owners, with other SMS games.

It was released in 1987.

The board was bought by geraldcoy, so the info will make its way public soon! I have had a small amount of contact with him in the recent past, and he seems keen to supply info. Isn't he a regular here? Either way, I'll be dropping him an email over this one :)

Cool. I'm not sure to know who he is, so I'm glad to hear that (since I lost the auction :P).
There's a EPROM on it, perhaps a dedicated BIOS. I'm under the impression that the 5 cartridges are standard SMS cartridges.

Congrats on finding those Zeetech!

Would you mind opening the cartridges and taking a picture of them? I'm curious to find out if the ROM inside are identical to the final version or not. Otherwise it would be amazing to get them dumped :)

I believe they're standard SMS carts. And are interchangeable.

The rarity is in the hardware and cabinet itself.

A cabinet has not come up for sale in a decade. And this is the only documented MINI cab to ever surface.

Well it'd be better to confirm it, opening them to see if they are EPROM or Mask ROM would be a first step.

It's a really cool cab!
It looks similar (in vibe) to the Sega Mark III Soft Desk:

That cabinet is the closest I've seen to mine. Shame it was destroyed/lost in a fire almost a decade ago.

Would have loved to have compare the two.

Yes losing the other cabinet was quite depressing for me (though I assume Youltar lost more in the accident). It's a good thing we managed to save all the boards tho.

Zeetech sent me a picture of the sticker that says:

So interestingly this small cabinet actually has a name, "Shooting Zone Mini"

to some degree yes. However, unlike the Playchoice10 that plays mini pcb's, the shooting zone cabinets play STANDARD master system carts.
and i think thats what makes it very special in my opinion.
