hey all. love this site.
i downloaded MEKA 3 times, ( once after rebooting my computer to see if it was a restart issue ) but the sound seems to keep messing up. I'm running XP service pack 2, and other emulators like Kega run fine. any ideas what the issue may be? any help is greatly appreciated |

It is a known problem with MEKA, happening on some computers. Sorry for that.

Bock,
Could the sound problems in MekaW be related to buffers?? I have just found that using my on-board sound card as opposed to my PCI sound card the sound seemed to be less choppy. Also does the DirectX version you are running have anything to do with it? It seems weird that some days the sound is good yet others its crappy so it leaves me to believe that maybe certain hardware combinations could cause problems?? I know its only phesable ideas and I know I may be completely wrong but its worth a try Thanks Bock Scott |

The code is plain wrong, it can't work properly on a multitasking operating system. It has to be fixed.

Hi Omar, been a while
It is terrific to see you've put a lot of work into the new Meka! I'm disappointed to see the sound is still in such a bad state. You've done such a beautiful job on the UI, the choppy sound cheapens the whole experience. You should really focus on fixing it! :) (Yes, that's right, I'm nagging you) The "Sync to audio" code I wrote for the old version of Meka has been working flawlessly for me on a variety of hardware. You might want to revisit it. It works best with triple bufferng (that way audio syncing and video syncing aren't blocking each other). -- Rob |

DjRobX,
Today I started a new SVN branch with the goal of fixing sound issues. Applied your patch now. I will be performing the transition to allow only fixed speed mode (effectively removing 1/1 1/2, etc) and fixing every little related bit. For exemple as a workaround to removed 1/1 which was used as a flacky way to speed up game I'll see if I can add a key to speed up temporarly, etc. I am also concerned by the viability of this change with non triple buffered video mode, desktop/windowed mode running at other refresh rate, etc. But hopefully we can settle and solve everything. |

Another problems is the dependency on sound. Without sound/Seal running this obviously can't work so either I need a fallback either I can try to move the wait outside of sound dependencies.

I'd like someone under GNU/Linux to get revision 73 under this branch:
http://svn.smspower.org/svn/meka/branches/20070707-soundsync/ Edit or create meka.cfg and add: audio_sync_speed = 598 And tell me how sound performs when enabled (compared to the trunk). Thanks. |

It fixes one problem, but not the sound.
When enabling sound in the trunk version, the entirety of Meka lags - it is completely unusable. I don't just mean when a game is playing - I mean in general. Several seconds between each frame. The lag-time seems exponential. The soundsync branch fixes that problem; Meka is perfectly usable - even when sound has been enabled. Until a ROM is loaded... Then the lag kicks in. It's eight seconds between each frame. The lag-time is constantly eight seconds. I tried revisions 73 and 75 (latest at the time of writing) - both seem the same. |

I can confirm this too on revision 76. Andrea. |

*excised*
edit: just saw the new meka thread, be right back, testing if it works, regard this post as non-existant edit2: works, but only in 60HZ, totally goes whacko @50HZ and PAL/SECAM mode |
