Correction: I get one adapter for free - I only soldered ONE cheapo homebrew thing for Bock, and I am NOT going to make any more, unless someone wants one (or probably more like ten) in exchange for Thundercats or a SMS Disk System. Like I said, I'll buy three in addition to the one I get for free. And no one touches my candy, dammit! |

I'm interested in one of these Adapters. PM me with details on how I go about paying for a pre-order.
Thanks -J |

Give me TWO!
That stuff is nice, give me too! When do you will have the final version? I'm very very slow saving money, but I want that stuff FOR SURE... |

Thanks again all.
If things goes as expected, I could get the produced goods in ~7 weeks. |

I smell an SMS Power! store coming up... ;)

Bock, after all those orders, how is the price?
|
Posted: Wed Jul 19, 2006 11:13 am |
Unchanged. To let you know, the selling price is way higher than production price but I have to order 250 of them and I don't expect to sell all anytime soon so I'm trying to reduce my risk here. Of course the 50 orders aren't paying back for the whole (remember I originally planned to have 100 preorders). |

Progress report: adapters arrived!
Please wait a bit until I do testing and start harassing people to get my money back. :) Adapters comes in two flavor: - diagonal version (80% of the production) - straight version (20% of the production) The diagonal version is recommanded. It requires you to remove the plastic bit from the SMS back, but then you can stick the adapter in the expansion slot, and keep the SMS properly closed. If you are some maniac who doesn't want to remove the plastic bit and keep your SMS virgin, use straight version and you can put the SMS cover over it but it can't be screwed so your SMS isn't well closed and it's a bit dodgy. |

Price

I will reduce the price by a few euros, but I need to check out on the shipping cost first.
|
Posted: Thu Aug 31, 2006 2:00 pm |
Can you post some more close-up pictures? I'm still a bit nervous about the build quality, wondering how many times I can plug a cart into a diagonal adaptor before a solder joint breaks - although, that's an encouragement to buy more than one...
|

I'm interest by one too.
A idea for the port price to France? Can you sell it hand-to-hand on Paris or it's better to send? ps :If you can sell all, think to ebay |

I think you missed me off the order list :(
|

You seemed not to be sure about was the adapter was doing. If you confirm your offer to buy 2 i can put you back. Manest: my first quote was a fixed price of 15 euros including shipping worldwide. If you want to get it hand to hand I suppose I can reduce the price accordingly. But I guess shipping to France shall be fairly cheap, 1 or 2 euros maybe. |

Maxim, I don't have a camera handy, I'll do that in some days.
The diagonal adapter looks rigid enough, but frankly I haven't tested this version on a real SMS yet. I sent a SMS to the guy making them for testing and I think he was intelligent enough to do the right choices. I will test the diagonal version shortly and will tell you. |

Shipping Addresses
Posted: Thu Aug 31, 2006 8:15 pm
|
For those reading this and who pre-ordered, to spare me on sending e-mail to everyone, please send me an e-mail with those information:
# Forum name # Real name # Full address # Quantity ordered (it's your chance to triple ;) My e-mail is cornut at noos dot fr It is also my PayPal address (but don't pay yet). Please mention in the e-mail if you can't pay via PayPal, to arrange another way. Price will be less than 15 euros, but again I'll have to check on shipping. Say, between 12 and 14. I will also reduce price for multiple orders. Of course if you're uncertain, you can always hold on and order later. |

Diagonal Adapter : Info + More pictures
Posted: Mon Sep 04, 2006 11:45 am

The diagonal adapter is stable and barely moving in the system. It looks solid.
It may be a bit difficult to plug at first because it fits very tightly. You'll have to find the appropriate pressure level between gentle and violent to push it into the back connector. Once it's there you shall have no reason to remove it because it's small enough (but of course you can remove it if you wish). |

Order Now

You can now order your gender adapter(s) from here:
http://www.smspower.org/GenderAdapter I will process shipping in batches, and may send everything at once in a dozen days. I'll be unavailable from 18 September to 8 October. Any order placed near the 18 September limit will have to be shipped mid-October. Please continue to ask questions as needed. I know the page is unclear but I have no time to do anything better now. |

Just to make it clear: do people who "pre-ordered" in this thread need to click through and order again by PayPal?
The information in the embedded PayPal form is setting the PayPal page to French, can you make it appear in English by default, and maybe offer multiple buttons for different languages? If you sign in to PayPal before you click the button, you seem to get your normal language. |

It won't let me specify the type of adapter through paypal I want. But of course I wish for a diagonal model.

Probably a stupid question, but can this only be used via the expansion slot, or can it be used in the ordinary cart.slot for the Mark III? I know there is a difference in the pins etc. but wondered anyway.
|
Posted: Tue Sep 05, 2006 2:31 pm |
Just the expansion slot, and just on an SMS1 (Japanese or otherwise). It won't work on a Mark III. The Mark III expansion slot, and the Mark III cartridge slot, are missing some of the important connection lines, so the compatibility will be worse.
|
Posted: Tue Sep 05, 2006 2:34 pm |
Ah well, was worth asking! That's what I feared though! Shame I don't have a Japanese SMS1. I'm not planning on doing anything complex like dumping games etc. so it prob aint worth my while getting one right now then. Would the tototek one be of use to me?
|
Posted: Tue Sep 05, 2006 2:57 pm |
Only for playing Western SMS games on a Japanese SMS or Mark III. |
|
|
Posted: Tue Sep 05, 2006 3:05 pm |
Yeah, that's all I was planning on using it for really - playing Euro SMS games on the Mark III. Are there any serious compatibility issues with the tototek adapter? Codemasters springs to mind.

A grown man can't complain about 13,00€ - go on, I'll have one then. Those photos with the little SMSPowers on it are just so sweet, it's no good. Another box of sega treasures buried in the attic for future generations, I guess.
It will be completely useless in my possession, but when has that ever stopped me doing or saying anything? I should have the available funds through by the end of this week. Are you gona put any on ebay, yahoo japan auctions, etc? |

Posted: Tue Sep 05, 2006 5:34 pm |
It's a bit depressing if the general concensus is to buy the adapter for its coolness. Do me a favor and have use for the adapter someday. :)
Yes. I'll put several on eBay but later, not this month. I'm going to Japan soon and I'll see if I can sell them to retro game/import shops. |

When I last was in Japan, which admittedly is starting to be a long time ago, there was a piece of retro heaven in the back streets of Akihabara. I don't think it was Max Load, but it had a somewhat similar name. You should try to sell your adaptor there.
Hmm, if I had 85 000 yen, I think I would use those for an airplane ticket instead of a complete MS set on Yahoo... |

First Batch Shipped
Posted: Fri Sep 15, 2006 11:59 am

I shipped this morning all adapters that have been paid so far (about half of the pre-orders).
I haven't had time to test all adapters. Shall any problem arise, e-mail me and we'll sort it out (I'll probably send another). I'll be mostly unavailable from now to October 8th. |

You can test it on any SMS1.

Hi, I just handed a international credit card, now I can use Paypal with no probs and honor my promise! But I have a question: is the final price (13 EUR) with shipping included? If not, how much is it to ship to Brazil?
Also, if anyone got a Japanese SMS for selling, send me a e-mail (displayed in my profile). For now I only have my first and only brazilian SMS1 back from 89 - 90... |

Got mine yesterday thanks Bock
Ive just tested it out, does take a bit of force to get it into place, so i suggest leaving it in there once its in. The brilliant FM music and sounds in cloud master and rampage totally transforms the games, i love it! |
