I would just like to wish everyone congrats on their entries. Coders and musicians from all over the globe have participated in the contests and this is good to see.

I can also see a number of Aussie guys into the competitions. I am right there with you. Could it be possible that the aussies will "clean up" the medal tally and live the "SMSPower! Commonwealth Games"..... I know bad joke... (cmon laugh, I urge you to).

Thanks to everyone for providing the competitions with such good products, it just gets better year after year.

I allready can't wait until the 10th anniversary of SMSPower! and what exciting things we will see in the near future.

Jacko

I don't imagine you'll be able to use time zone confusion as an excuse for voting late, so hurry up.

Yes... it's not another level, is it? I was just helping people get started on finding the rest of the path.

I liked it, and i gave it a high rating.
I'm NOT a Black Metal fan, but i think it's cool because you've got the guts to
make a cover like that. It's original.

Ah, yes... I forgot to vote for the music before the vote was over, but I really liked your tune (try and read the #SMSPower logs ;) I think it was a good cover because it didn't stick too much to the original, but still is obviously inspired by it (AK:iMW: - "Underwater").

Like a lot of people, I wasn't able to hear the Alex Kidd underwater music in it, but nevertheless I voted it in the top 50% at least (I forgot where exactly).

Congratulations to Jacko for taking first and last place! Like most of us I thought Shinobi's Miracle Ball was an excellent treatment of a Sega classic and deserved the top spot. I also ranked Jumpin' in the Park highly as I #1 have particular interest in original VGM submissions and #2 felt it had an 'SMSy' feel to it. I might have been one of the only ones to see it that way, though.

I really did try to hear the Alex Kidd underwater theme in Peder's entry but I couldn't. Maybe you have to be a black metal fan to be able to hear melodies in black metal songs.

Just read the logs..

I redone the tune to Black Metal by first making a rythm riff
(that you probably wont think of Alex Kidd when listening to it. I made it to get the black metal feeling in the song.)
But when the lead comes in you should hear that it is the underwater tune.
It is NOT the same as the original tune, but it is VERY similar.

But while listening to the rythm riff you can whistle (or whatever) the original tune (in a lower tone) and you should hear the similarity..

One reason that it might be hard is that it issent played the same way as the original (tempo and tone.).
Since the original tempo diddent really fit the black metal genre,
neither did the original tune cause it sounds to "happy", thats why I "had to" remake it.

Anyway, if anyone has wondered what I singed in the song I will post the lyrics here:

Alex Kidd den Grusomme:
Alex Kidd
Den Grusomme
Krigerske
Apen

Han sloss med mot
Spark og Slag
Overalt
Han seirer

Translated:
Alex Kidd The Gruesome
Alex Kidd
The Gruesome
Warrior
Monkey

He fights with courage
Kick and Punch
Everywhere
He conquers

Listen to the original, and imagine it being played with lower tones.
Then listen to my song when the LEAD guitars come in..
You should be able to recognize it..

I also liked "Jumpin' in the Park" and voted it pretty high, for same reasons as you. It is a bit short though. Note how it was the only original composition. We will need more of those in the future to be able to use in games/demos.

Well, well... I suppose that I've won the "VGM competition", cause my submission is #1 of VGM format ;D (i'm joking).

A nice competition, and a deserved winner. Congratulations to all.

Thanks guys for all your kind comments.

Peder I finally now understand your song, thanks for posting lyrics that really helps.

Attatched are some pics of the original score for Jumpin' in The Park. There are differences between this version and the final version which plays on the PSG chip. Can anyone guess where I have changed the song?

Yes I know Jumpin' In The Park was short but I only had a few hours to make it.

So are there any prizes?? I am not bothered if there is not any.

Thanks to everybody who voted kindly for my tune. Even though I placed 4th just behind the runners up, I am pleased to know that I was not entirely out of my league. (but I would have loved an SMS Power T-Shirt!)

So when do we choose our designs and sizes and give you guys some contact information.

And yes I think its fair the competition staff get some sort of gift to say "thanks" because although I sort of started to get the ball rolling this year with the music competition other people such as Bock, Maxim and other site administrators for getting the competitions up and running.

Thanks to all (again) for the kind comments. Well done to everyone in the competitions!
