YUZO KOSHIRO
For all those who enjoy the works of Yuzo Koshiro -- y'know, Bare Knuckle (Streets of Rage), Story of Thor, Super Shinobi? --you should check out his company's web site. Koshiro-san HIMSELF posts messages in the forum-- in English no less. Pretty cool.

VGM2MID
Not much progress in vgm2mid so far, although I _have_ added handling code for nearly all the YM2413 instructions, but I'm still confused by the methods the 2413 uses. You'd think a simpler chip would be, well, _simpler_, but it's just... _confusing-er_. If anybody can shed some light on just how the hell the thing turns notes on and off (all writes to the key on/off registers and percussion toggles seem to be 'ON'), then maybe I can move ahead a little. AFA the PSG is concerned, I only have to plug in my interpreter from gym2mid to make it work, and add my MIDI module to write the files, but I've been busy with school and work, and haven't had the time or the energy to do it yet. It'll happen, though. Got the next day-and-a-half off, so maybe something'll happen.

GYM2MID
Version 0.9 is not to where I'd like it, as many things were broken while improving the accuracy of the notes. v0.9 really only works well with newer soundcards, the SBLive! series in particular. So my question then is, would anybody mind an incomplete release? I put some samples up on my site so you all can hear what the new version can do.

The files are in MP3 and Windows Media format (the .WMAs sound much better than the MP3s, IMO, and they're the same size)

MIDI FORMAT 1
I tried, I tried. Couldn't get it to work. Should be easy, but... not. Don't.. have... the... energy. Any particular reason for wanting format 1 support? Format 0 works fine, and it's more of a direct translation, anyway.

Well, I'm not a programmer by any stretch of the imagination, but maybe it uses the same signal for both ON and OFF... kinda like a CDROM does.. a change in pit/bump only signifies a '1' bit, no change sgnifies a '0' bit.. I dunno :)

Well, I thought GYM2MID 0.8 was pretty accurate as it was.. what I was hoping for was probably waaaaaaaaaay to complicated to implement.
I have a crappy old ESS1788 Audiodrive, so I'll probably give 0.9 a miss then :)

That's OK, it's not essential, thew only reason is that Encore (my main MIDI authoring program) doesn't recognise MIDI format 0 for some reason.. but that's OK, I think Cakewalk (what I use to add extra MIDI EFX) can save between the different formats
