Welcome to MikeG ! Operation Wolf, and some thoughts..

Today is another of those little steps in SMS Power history, with a new member joigning us: Mike Gordon. Based in the United Kingdom, Mike is one of those hardware experts without who SMS Power wouldn't be there today. He's been recently working on modifying original SMS cartridges to include an EEPROM and therefore allows developers and emulators authors to upload and test their own programs on a real machines. Head off on the Sega 8-bit Development Section if you are interested in knowing more about it. Be sure as soon as we'll think the design and informations are ready to be published for real use by anyone with a brain, some money and mainly lots of time and care (assuming you don't want to become blind because of an UV light), it will be published.

Operation Wolf is now up and released. I guess arcade fans and especially the many people who owned the Master System package which cames with this game will be in a happy mood tonight. For the ones who lived in an Igloo in the past twelves years, Operation Wolf is an arcade first-person shooting game using the Light Phaser of the Master System. Enjoy! And remember playing the games is more important than anything else, so go and play them! :)

Now some thoughts, for those who cares enough to continue reading after the link to Operation Wolf. It's about banners. Banners were originally installed in exchange of the hosting services, and hopefully to get some money out of them and therefore be able to buy Sega 8-bit related cartridges and hardware. As of now, banners are generating an average profit of 11$ per month so I'm not sure they even worth it. Surely they are annoying, Genesis Power being the best example of them, as used in a larger scale. But the profit generated is very useful to Genesis Power in order to keeps buying new cartridges. Adding that to the fact donations have nearly stopped, and that most of the cartridges left to dump are extremely rare (and so expensive) items from all around the world (anyone living in Korea?), what I'm wondering is if SMS Power should switch to a banner system ala Genesis Power. Before you ask, yes, that includes the silly links in the middle of news, and maybe popups. I'm not doing anything people might dislike, so please voice your opinion about it on the forum - for or against?

Finally, the soon-but-not-so-soon-to-be museum is looking for a person experienced in CGI coding is either Perl or C. Please contact me if you feel you can do the job. There is nothing to win but experience and fun :)
