Major site change & New Release
Post Posted: Fri Aug 27, 1999 9:37 pm
As mentionned in Wednesday's news, something has now changed on the site - thanks to the help with CGI from Brian of Emulation World. The problem was that the main mirror site always got all downloads, and basically it was impossible to keep a working, reliable and fast FTP for more than a few days. I also do not have enough time to spend searching for new accounts and handling them. So the thing that changed is that you cannot download anything from this server anymore. A private server has been setup, and everyone who helped us by sending cartridges or money donation have access to the roms at the time they are released. Then they are free to do anything with the roms, and fact is that a dozen of them will probably upload them on different accounts they have.

Right now (at the time I am writing this news), there is simply no download pages. Hopefully they'll be fast to appear, and then you will be able to get the new roms sooner or later after their releases, depending on the speed of the guy updating the mirror page. Smart comments are welcome on this change, but not flames. Keep in mind that the Meka emulator and the SMS Power roms releases are given to you for free, so you can wait a few hours/days after a release time to get the file, and that without bitching.

To be forgiven, today release is nothing but the long awaited Wonderboy in Monsterworld for the Master System. You may know it as Wonderboy 4 or 5, but it doesn't really have a number, as there was a crap shoot-em-up game released between two real Wonderboy games, which screwed the counting system). So if you don't know Wonderboy games, it is a action/platform game, with a bit of adventure and a plot. This game is well known and very good on the Megadrive, but this late Master System port is much lesser known. Of course, graphics and sound aren't as good as the 16-bits versions, but it's still fun if you are into this kind of game. The gameplay is quite strange at first, so you'll have to play a bit before getting used to it.

As it was not enough, we even managed to dump a beta version of the game, and it is also included in the ZIP file. In the beta version (which obviously isn't finished, some graphics are even missing), you can press Down and both buttons simultaneously to teleport yourself to another area of the game. I believe it was used for debugging, while the game was being developed. Enjoy!
