New Forums are cool

Houdy everyone,

I just want to say that the new forums are excellent. It's going to take me a while to learn my way around the new format but hey thats life.

Keep up the good work.

Just one question though, what is BBCode?

Jacko

Hi Jacko,

Thanks for the kind comment.

I am also not yet used to this new format. The thing I'll be missing the more is the tree view. I took lot of time to simplify the phpbb system in some way but I understand it is still a little more complicated than the previous set of forum. Hopefully it'll be ok for everyone within a matter of days/weeks.

"What is BBcode" is answered in the FAQ, here : http://www.smspower.org/forums/faq.php#32.

I think that the new forum looks great. But I too will admit it'll take some time to get used to. I liked the tree view idea as well as you got to see who replied and how many replies there were to each topic.

The only other drawback I can think of at the moment is that now the pages take longer to load in the browser.

Apart from that, the change is a great one, and I guess it heavily outweighs the the current feeling of inconvenience that the change is causing.

I must also say, that the new forum is a great improvement. I hope it will help tighten and expand the community as well as eliminate those horrible spam messages. Many thanks to those responsible :)
One thing I've noticed though, is an extensive over-use of the quotation feature.

What do you mean?
Note how messages imported from the previous board have quotes in most of them (because of the way the older board worked).

Newer messages won't have much quote, unless explicitely added.

I see now. Some threads were new to me, so I thought they had just been made. That explains the "Guest" designation :)
Thanks again!

It's certainly looking great. Not wanting to brown-nose too much, but it's probably the slickest phpBB board I've seen. Great stuff!

wow, I like it!

For users of Firefox, I highly reccomend this extension - it adds BBCode formatting options into the context menu of text boxes

:D

Avatars make the page much slower to load and it loses consistency of appearance. If we strictly controlled the avatars (size limits, content rules) then it'd be better but there'd be lots of arguments and difficulty, and we're too busy anyway. This board is somewhat too complicated for us anyway :)
