Is robocod the only game to use a (fake) dual playfield on the sms?
(noticed it won't work on brsms - its flat)
I know chopper lifter kind of does it but its not the same.

no, theres a few of them that do that. pretty intresting since the video hardware was not designed for multiple layers..

if brsms does not recognize the game against an internal list, it will use generic methods to emulate the game ( ie do not check if any special video tricks are occuring etc)
also check out the sound in robocod, as well as a few others (alien 3 etc), in meka you get an intresting sound that other emulators dont support (but is ment to be there)

No Alien3 also uses the same technique.

The trick is to rewrite the tiles (the graphic chars) in real time (as the screen scrolls). This was very often used on the good old C64 (Turrican comes to mind).
