This and Xenon 2 have a similar heritage in that they are Amiga-original sequels that had their primary music track produced for them by somewhat legitimate electronic musicians. There's a nice article at https://readonlymemory.com/the-making-of-speedball-2/ covering it.

The main track is a pretty impressive 3 minutes loop, and to my ear it sounds nicer on SMS than on the Amiga original. It's a shame the rest of the game is so lacking music.

Yes, this track sounds better than the Amiga version for sure! The same can be said of Shadow of the Beast level 2 track, which is AMAZING and one of the best in the entire Master System catalogue.
