Master System Collection - Tectoy. Console Hacks
Post Posted: Mon Sep 23, 2024 5:44 pm
Sorry for my English, I'm using an online translator.
I'm opening this topic to centralize and make available my advances in hacks for consoles in this line (based on ATT6001/Tectoy-580).
I start by providing some surveyed pinouts
Schematics, photos and videos of my progress, as well as BKP of the CPLDs used in the consoles I purchase.

File with some pinouts/BKP of the consoles' CPLDs (originals taken from consoles):
CPLDs files for:
Master System Collection: 74 built-in games;
Master System Collection: 105 built-in games (two versions of the board);
Master System Collection: 112 built-in games;
Master System Collection: 120 built-in games;
Mega Drive 3: 71 built-in games;
------------------
Bypass CPLD file for: Master System Collection: 120 built-in games (Enable the physical slot)
Bypass CPLD file for: Mega Drive 3: 71 built-in games (habilita uso do modo "Master System")
https://mega.nz/file/rT4TxZCa#QKQIFk0TP_X9WoJSn4NWixkP6HK0vAKNKS6jSGWxfDc

Video making the Master System with 120 games run Mega Drive games (By editing the CPLD files, I now know that I can make the missing pins available in the DIP connector to run complete Mega Drive games, without having to make interventions on the board's tracks - This video does not yet cover this update)

Video showing how to enable the physical slot on Master System 120 games. And also how to enable "Mastersystem" mode on Mega Drive clone 71 games.
*These modes require rewriting the CPLD (for now just a bypass file that disables the internal games to be able to add the new functions). For the megadrive requires adding the M3 wire. A second option is also provided for the Mega Drive, which removes the CPLD chip and bypasses it with wires.

Unfortunately, the videos are in Brazilian Portuguese (maybe not very useful for users here)

I'm preparing a multiboot Mastersystem (waiting for the cards to arrive)

ATTENTION: To rewrite the BKPs of the CPLDs on your boards, check the correct version of your boards if they match

Ok, this is great! I was planning to look for one of those systems next time I'm in Brazil and I always wondered if they could be "unlocked". I hope you will keep posting any update in this forum :)

Thanks. Sorry about the quality of the photos, my photography equipment isn't the best. In the link photo of the plate versions I have. The one with 120 games had a few fewer components (they are highlighted in one of the images).
I haven't assembled the Multiboot board yet, I'm waiting for the PCB to arrive to assemble and test.
The plates are not specific to each model, some were the same model but inside the plate was a different version.

Thank you, I'll post anything I find out here.
I hope you find a good console, I bought these used and in general they were in terrible condition and I had to repair them to be able to use them.
But there are some sellers who still sell them in the original boxes, but the price is much higher.

Thanks for these! Uploaded them here for longevity. SMSPower has been around for 20 years, Mega.nz I doubt as much (plus they delete all files after 1 year inactivity).

Where is the PDF Mark 3 multi-rom from? Did you design that?

Thank you friend, this site is certainly better. The Multiboot I'm designing. I'm putting together a large batch of projects to order everything at once from the sign factory, as now the laws have changed in my country, and taxes and shipping are getting quite expensive, so I'm collecting a lot before ordering.

Ah yes, I've heard about this.
PCBs are very cheap to make here, I use Oshpark.com. They even give us free shipping. We are spoiled.

If you need a middle person sometime to help you dev, feel free to drop a message. I can't promise anything but happy to explore some options so you can keep making Sega PCBs :)
