[VGM Pack] Desert Strike (GG)

For some reason, they made a completely different game and soundtrack for the GG release, even though it was the same developer as the SMS version... there's also no credit for the music. I couldn't identify a few short tracks. The game code has signs of removed music on startup, and the (long!) intro sequence oddly has missing music at the end, which may explain some of them. |

I’ve realised that the music here more closely resembles the Mega Drive original, so some credit is due to the original composers, Rob Hubbard and Brian Schmidt. I’d welcome help identifying the tracks that are arranged.

I'll need to actually play the game gear version to double check but I know 2 of the unknown tunes from the mega drive version
Unknown 2 is the jingle that plays when you complete a mission (an in game objective) Unknown 3 plays during an in game cut scene on the first level (each level has 1 in game cut scene which triggers during a specific mission, the mega drive version at least has different music for each one) Unknown 1 I cannot place, it doesn't match any cutscene music from the mega drive, but almost sounds like part of the first section of the intro. Of course I'll need to actually play the Game Gear version to be sure. |

There are videos on YouTube of a full play through if you know what you’re looking for, I just didn’t find what I wanted on a quick scrub through :)

Good idea. Watching a long play, the game does not use the mission complete jingle at all (unknown 2) and there's no cutscene when you rescue the secret agent in the last mission of level 1 (unknown 3).
Is there even an intro? Looks like all 3 of the unknowns are unused. EDIT - just had to wait a bit longer, there definitely is! |

It seems to be a particular hallmark of the Desert Strike games that there’s a long “cinematic” story (with multiple pictures and music tracks) that plays after the title screen times out, which most games would put before the title screen or after you press start on the title screen. We also debated whether it should be called an intro, story, prologue, opening, or something else.
