How to submit a romhack?
Post Posted: Sun Aug 11, 2024 10:21 am
Hi. I would like to submit my romhack here on SMS Power. How do I do that?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Zynk,

you can post it in here together with screenshots and a description.
An admin will pick it up and create the corresponding page.
You can take inspiration for what to screenshot and the description on the other hack pages.
Also make sure to specify which rom version the hack is meant to be applied to.

Hi Calindro,

Couldn't help but overhear the conversation. I have personally noticed that it's a selective progress from the admins. There's no guarantee that it gets picked up even with screenshots posted. Some hacks don't make it on that page and remain in the forums which makes it harder to advertise what you've made and let others find it. Wink wink...

We’d love to have more volunteers to help with the site.

Hi Maxim,

Is it a case of not enough staff to run the joint?

It’s a case of we don’t have any staff, and the number of active volunteers is less than one on average.

That's a shame, it's such a wonderful site with lots of talent.

Have you tried asking some of the other users on here? Maybe even privately?

Maybe start a new topic on the subject if it hasn't been addressed yet?

What about Calindro or Slogra? Two amazing figures along with yourself could really help clean and monitor the site. I'd nominate and throw my support towards them.

Both Calindro and Slogra already are amongst the selected people who can edit the wiki, even I can. The keyword in Maxim's post is "volunteer", you can't force people to do things, I try to help from time to time, but real life gets in the way, at least in my case. I don't even have access to a working computer as of now.

Well how come Slogra had to ask permission for someone with ''selected powers'' to edit the ''Oh No More Lemmings'' hack page to include the latest v0.04 build? By your comment, Slogra should have been able to do it on his/hers own but couldn't.

Did I say that we have to drag users across the site and force them to have senior positions? I expressed my support towards two users on here who very frequently make posts is all, of course they have to want to do it.

I'm not stupid, I know he said (VOLUNTEER). I was just showing my support towards two of my favourite users on SMS Power that's all and I was under the assumption that Slogra at least wasn't one of the ''special ones''.

We are pretty open to add more people to the wiki edit list, there are already many dozens. I'm not sure why slogra wasn't in the list already, added them now.

As for all volunteers, please take care to examine existing pages for clues how to add anything new. Feel free to ask for guidance.

My idea was to add it myself to the page if none of the others do it before me. So I could kind of make the promise. I wasn't aware that your hack hasn't been added yet. If Bock hadn't added it already I would have done it now.

Okay, I wasn't expecting this and didn't ask for it but I am grateful for Bock adding me and will try and learn how to do all the editing stuff in my own time, much like Tom I simply don't have the time.

To Maxim: you needn't worry about stuff ups on my end, lol I don't even know how to post screenshots. Will definitely be asking for help and will be examining the pages carefully as a newbie.

To Calindro: I was being a little cheeky in my original post but I wasn't just referring to my own hack, I mentioned screenshots in my first post and by that I was thinking about a neat little hack called ''Teddy Boy In Numberworld'' by AlexKidd76 that I believe should get it's own page that didn't.

It's quite clear now that nobody's ever going to make a page of ''Alex Kidd In Miracle World - Extended Edition'' there was no page of it in 2021 when I first signed up and no page in 2024 with the final, if you want to make a page for the hack, that would be great! Although there's no screenshots added as I couldn't figure it out so you'd have to add some. I would also love to see the Teddy Boy hack get it's own page as well on the hacks list. I can't do it right now as i'm new and still working my way round the place so if anyone wants to heh heh keyword again (volunteer) it would be greatly appreciated.

One thing we lack is a work queue, finding old forum posts when you find time to do work is not so easy. Maybe we can open a GitHub project for issue tracking, or we could have a dedicated forum for such requests. The issue is that it’s a pain to expect users to post in the forums and also in another place to request additional to the site.

You know I was reading this thread and had exactly the same thought. Same goes for minor site fixes, doc fixes, etc. – on the rare occasion where I feel I do have 10 mins to spare to help out, I have to go back over months of threads or Discord chats to remind myself what actually might need doing, with no assurance that someone else hasn't started it.

I'd definitely be behind Github issues or something like that. It's simple enough to use and lots of people will have some experience with it and probably a github account already.

It’s easy for those of us who write software to think everyone has a GitHub account :)
