For the first time on the internet in it's entirety.
I guess it was bound to come soon or a later. |

You could have made a VGM pack…

Sigh... Look we should just be happy that the soundtrack is available to listen to outside of the game as this option wasn't available before, it's still progress even if it's just a recorded soundtrack in a video. Shouldn't really matter what format it's in or whether I did this or didn't do that either, we as a community should just be grateful that somebody took the time to record it and put it out there.
My job is to put them up on youtube for the public, any extracting, dissecting, copying, downloading etc is for others to do. I thought I was doing a favour to SMS Power by posting the video here but considering it's getting close to zero attention on the actual video and a not so positive but blunt response from yourself Maxim makes me wonder why I even bother in the first place. If you wanna make a VGM pack or something yourself then go right ahead but i'm not sure how one would go about doing that as it's just recorded MP3 audio on a CD in a compressed Youtube video. The music wasn't flushed out of the ROM to make a proper VGM pack for the site. This kind of stuff is beyond my knowledge as I leave that stuff to the experts. i'm just a recorder of music. Have a nice day! |

I meant it sounds like you did a lot of effort to record it, it might have been easier to make a VGM pack and then record that from a real system if you like.

Okay my apologies for getting a little agitated in my last post, but I really dislike it when I do something positive for the community and people always point out something else that I should have done or could have done instead of being grateful for what is. That was not your intention in your post but it is how it came across that annoyed me, blunt and neutral.
To quote Lemmings Fun Level 17 Title: ''Easy when you know how''. Regarding the VGM pack: The problem is that I don't know how to do that stuff, otherwise trust me Maxim, I would have done it already. I don't even know how to download a VGM player to record an ost off of real hardware? I can never get them up and running so I give up. In the past I always had to play through a game stopping on each level to record the music when there were no VGM packs available for it. It is super annoying doing it that way but when there are no other audio resources available to the public, what choice do I have? The other problem I am always faced with is when VGM packs and internet audio files are available, it's always in NTSC 60Hz as a 50Hz option is never there so I have to do it myself by playing through the game (if I got it) if I want it in PAL 50Hz. That's what I like about Niloct's VGM web player here on SMS Power, you can choose PAL or NTSC and increase the loop count. Just wish the audio quality was better. I'm more into recording video game music to audio CDs and making my own personal collection, i'm able to share them on Youtube with the public and I always welcome others to download the videos to MP4 if they wish and then they have a personal copy of the video. From there, if anybody wants to pull out the individual tracks in the video to make their own personal playlist or a VGM pack or whatever, they're more than welcome to do that. |

Hey Adrian, as the guy who's been most active with doing the VGM rips here as of late I just want to say that I appreciate your hardware recording of the soundtrack.
Part of my motivation for doing these is to make it easier for people to sample these soundtracks, and I'm grateful for Maxim and others for uploading the VGMs on this website to YouTube. In my eyes anyone who is adding to that, especially with games that SMS Power hasn't gotten to yet (such as this one, as of writing!), is indeed doing a service for Sega 8-bit lovers all over. Maxim is right that making VGM packs is easy (well, there is a learning curve but you only need to learn it once). That said, I tip my hat to anyone who records from hardware as not everyone has access to that stuff (myself included... that's why I make VGM rips). I will say that at the end of the day uploading video game music is a bit of a thankless job, and that energy spent arguing about them should be spent either doing something about it or on more pertinent issues in life. At the end of the day, we're here for the music, and if it's out there making people happy then I think that's a job well done. |

Thank you very much! I appreciate the words and I too are grateful for all the VGM rips here on the site. Just to make it clear, I wasn't arguing and I now know that Maxim's intention were from a good place and it's not so much that i'm fishing for compliments or praise but when someone comments straight out and says, ''you could have done this or you could have done that'' without being clear on it really irks me up the wrong way. It is very much a thankless job and that's all it will ever be unfortunately. The problem with VGM packs for me (depending on how difficult it is) is that I don't think I have time to learn even if I wanted to. I lead a very busy life nowadays but if SMS Power is interested I do have many Master System soundtrack recordings much like this one that this site hasn't got and they can be found on my Youtube channel. Maybe I should make some more posts like BTTFIII and put them here if SMS Power hasn't got it. Just some food for thought. |
