This is extremely cheeky. I wonder how those effects are done. There has to be sprite masking going on, surely.

Seems to run okay at 50Hz.

No sprite tricks at all - the rotating horizontal bars are all done with horizontal scroll which did surprise me, but the kaleidoscope effects are apparently done by streaming tiles which is how I imagined the whole thing was done.

It's a beautiful overall effect though, really special.

The horizontal bars are implemented with scroll as you mentioned but sprites are used to mask the right side. The green areas in the attached image are covered with sprites. The left column is also masked.

Aha, thanks, I stand corrected - I didn't notice the sprites in the Emulator initially because they're black I guess haha :)
