SMS I - scart rgb cable question
Post Posted: Thu Oct 05, 2023 4:21 pm
Hello everyone,

I do have a sms 1 with scart rgb cable.

When i connect it to my sony pvm it shows that rgb signal ok and picture is fine.

i also have a tv “toshiba 15vl64g” which has 2 scart inputs.

1 rgb
2 svideo i suppose

When i connect sms to first input i only got audio. No video.

When i connect it to scart 2 ; got picture but awful :)

What must be the problem with tv scart?

I have tried ps2 rgb with input 1 it works great!

Can you add some more details? What exactly are you seeing?

When connecting to the first input, do you get any picture at all? It’s the screen black or do you get a picture that’s not stable?

I’m not a hardware guy, but my guess is that only the first of the two inputs supports RGB, but it somehow doesn’t like the sync signal coming from your console. The second input probably only supports composite video, which explains the stable but poor picture.

If you don’t get a rolling picture but no picture at all, then it’s likely that your cable is not properly wired. Have you tried opening the plug to see if the RGB lines are actually connected?

Not every SCART cable is an RGB cable, there are many that only support composite video. This would explain the behaviour on your Toshiba TV. If the picture looks fine on the other one that could very well be just the TV handling the composite signal better, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s getting signals over the RGB lines.

Okay i don't how to answer that.

My cable is one side SMS I din cable. other side Scart.

If you ask how i know it is RGB;

I connect it through my PVM's RGB ports (using RGB to female scart cable)

when i power on PVM detects it is RGB signal and shows the image. If it wasn't RGB it wouldnt work either.

I also tried same cable with sony trinitron 14" tv using it's scart input and also works fine.

Perhaps the lcd tv does not like a 240p/15khz signal.
While the ps2 ouputs 480i.

I think it would still be useful to open up both plugs to see how the contacts are wired.

Well, Snes with RGB cable works well :) I think something missing with my SMS RGB cable. I will check inside and let you know.

Can someone also post pinout for correct RGB cable?
