Reversing (left hand) the Sega control stick
![]() |
Hi at all,
i ask if is possible to use the Sega control stick, on reverse mode, like a normal Sega controller. Is possible to exchange the left and right function with reversing the left and right pinout on the control stick? I ask this i'm a sx-er (left hand user) and is unconfortable for me to use with the right hand. Thanks at all. Toshio |

Funny, I've heard right-handed people make the same complaint about the joystick! Maybe it's just awkward for both handednesses.
If you can successfully diagnose and repair a faulty main board I'm certain you can do this! ☺ The pinout of the controller port is here: https://www.smspower.org/Development/PeripheralPorts You need to switch up for down, left for right and, I guess, TL for TR. I'd say you have two options: open the controller up and resolder the relevant wires. I haven't seen inside the joystick but in the standard control pad the wires are extremely easy to access and work on. The second option is making a little adapter cable. If you picked up a male to female DB9 cable with a serviceable shell on either end you could open up one of them, switch the wires around, and then plug that in-line whenever you wanted to use the joystick in reverse. Edit: something like this might also be an option |
