This is an attempt to create a Turrican game using the KiddEd editor.
The level design and all assets are based on Turrican 2 by Factor 5.
Created by slogra for the SMS Power hack competition 2023.

Game hints
- Collect 20 gems to earn a continue (= 200 currency)

Hi Maxim, thanks for making a few screenshots and gameplay video.

I noticed the noise channel sounds a bit off in your video. What emulator were you using? Could it be an 50hz issue?

I did not have the issue using Emulicious.

I'm using BizHawk to make videos as it is able to render gameplay losslessly.

Aha, Bizhawk seems to be inaccurate when it comes to the noise channel.
I also noticed it when playing Sonic Genesis on BizHawk. It affects official games like Alien 3 as well.

Lol, I’m not sure if Alex's traditionally floaty controls and Turrican are actually a good match, but Chibi Bren McGuire sure is absolutely adorable.

I love your PSG renditions of the classic tunes. Very well done.

The visuals are great, too, but I find it interesting that you based them on the DOS port of the game rather than the original. Why's that?

The original Bren resized to 24x16 looked way too tiny. So i had to come up with something else. Glad you like him :).

I prefer the background of the DOS port.
Most sprites including Bren are based on the Amiga version though.

Cool conversion, I like the new sprites, and the music is faithful to the original.

The enemy-heavy level designs don't necessarily translate well to Alex Kidd's default arsenal: if I don't aim properly at an oncoming enemy (they are fast), it's time to walk back for a bit and try again!
This would not necessarily be a problem (I do that in Alex Kidd after all), but new enemies sometimes come after every step forward...

Since there is no punch attack for close combat, maybe the projectile could use a buff in speed, size, or even benefit from a short range and autofire? The character in the original game has a machine gun after all!

A good experience nonetheless, good work!

Yes, i tried doubling the speed of the Alex' projectile. The game is a lot easier that way. It changes my intended gameplay too much imho. I guess i got a bit attached to it :p.
And I did not want to make it too easy because the game is very short.

It is easy to change it again. I will post an additional patch soon.
