Master System Full PAL vs Full Euro Set
Post Posted: Tue Sep 13, 2022 11:47 am
A friend of mine was telling me about two Portuguese games that were exclusives:

Xule and Game Box

That would mean for a true European set of games you'll need 271 total (and not 269 as many people claim as the PAL set). Essentially there are 2 different sets in Europe.

I am curious if there are other games on Master System that I may have missed if I wanted to keep collecting after completing my PAL set to go for the full European set? I'm not talking about variants at this stage, just true exclusive games.

Thanks,

Is Portugal not a PAL country?

Not certain of the total off-hand, but I suppose that amount of "PAL" games does not include Brazil (where PAL-M I hear is kind of debating if it even counts as anything but its own format :D ).

It is but they also got a few "purple releases" and out of those 2 were exclusive to Portugal.

Mah jong (only released in hong kong) is also technically a Pal game.

Interested, yeah I'd heard of that one. I believe it's incredibly rare. Great shout, thank you. I wonder if there are any others in Europe?

Anyone have the full list to refer to then?

I originally took the Wiki list and split it down PAL/NA and then have been following that... not sure how correct it is now though.

As for Mah-Jong, I would say that it´s an alternative decision or an upgrade if you want to, since it has been produced in western cart format, but has been released in Hong Kong in mandarin (so: outside of Europe). You can do it, but I think that it´s not super necessary. I would love to have one, though ^-^

As for the Game Box and Sapo Xule: The games on the Game Box have been released as standard retail versions and Sapo is a hack, which makes it up to you as well if you want it or not. I don´t count them into the european set.

I guess that this list (pdf) is the one that most people use.

These all come with caveats, but apart from the ones already mentioned in this thread there is also the unlicensed Australian release "4 PAK All Action", and the UK's Dixons exclusive bundled "Hang On & Astro Warrior", where the only difference to the US release is the manual as it was bundled unboxed.
