No sound through modern TV - how to put right?
Post Posted: Thu Aug 11, 2022 8:56 pm
I've a feeling this is a stupid question, I've put off asking it for a while. But, when I plug an SMS into a modern TV, I don't get any sound. I've tried 2 (and a different system of the same vintage), same issue. Do I need an adaptor of some sorts, or is there a workaround?

How are you connecting the Master System to the TV?

If you happen to be using RF (tuned in like an analogue TV channel), then one possibility is that the TV may be configured to the wrong standard.

Eg, If your console is PAL/I (UK) the sound signal is 6 MHz away from the video signal, but if your TV is set to PAL/B it would be looking for the sound signal 5.5 MHz away and would just find static.

Perfect, working now. The option was a bit hidden on my TV (and I guess its different on every brand of TV, and probably changes after every few years of models too), but I got there. Thanks so much. Why didn't I check into this sooner?
