Tensai Bakabon translation
Post Posted: Fri May 06, 2022 9:16 am
A talented group of ROM hackers have released a patch for what is (depending on your point of view) the last untranslated (to English) Master System game, Tensai Bakabon. This is also an outstanding effort, including translation of all in-game art containing text, text "hidden" in level layouts, a full manual translation, a variable-width font renderer, and some very careful translation of puns and double meanings in the original text.

Thank you FCandChill, TheMajinZenki, cccmar!

So it seems the ending has credits... some of which are a bit off on the romanisations.

Let's introduce the staff!
Who had the big idea to make this game?

I'm Ossare Kohta. Rerere?!

Huh? There should be another one.
Show yourself!

Eeek! Chiemushi helped too!

Who made the art?

Chouko Neesan.
Call me anytime!

I was also involved.
I'm Chameleon Aki.

What about the music?

I'm Tanya.
Lah lah.

There's a lot of pretty ladies, huh?

I'm the programmer, Hamu Taku.
Give me back all the time I wasted!

That hurt, but I forgive you.
We're all slaves to our urges.

Huff... Huff...

Ossare Kohta should be Ossale Kohta (Kotaro Hayashida).
Chiemushi is probably Chieko Aoki, who seems to have used multiple "Chie" based nicknames.
Chouko Neesan should be Choko Oneesan (Choko Kawaguchi).
Chameleon Aki, no idea :) but the same name is in the credits for Ys.
Tanya should be Tarnya (Chikako Kamatani).
Hamu Taku is probably Taku Shoji?

Played it through, on Meka 0.61 (I happened to have on old computer).

The UFO parts are pretty mean after otherwise leisurely playing... especially that you'd need to do the end three times to see all versions (once was enough for me, watched the others with emulator save).

Cool to experience a different kind of SMS game. (Well, I did play High School Kimengumi something like 15 years ago. I should finally play that translated.)
