Any games that use a frame interrupt to swap the palette on a sprite?

I was thinking this could have been used for if a character went underwater or passed in front of something, and disappeared because of a change in color at a certain position. So are there any games that use an effect like this?

The ones with an 'underwater' effect: Sonic 1, Sonic 2 GG, Sonic Chaos, Sonic Triple Trouble...

The one with most creative usage of interrupts is Sonic Blast GG. All gradients in the backgrounds are created with them. Most interrupts were removed in the SMS version, however.

The title screen uses interrupts to extend the palette too.
