The story I read didn't specify which but reportedly he liked some After Burner and Space Harrier as well.

Says he wanted to encourage his children to enjoy all the video games.
If they liked Sega games more... then he just felt motivated to think about changing his own game design.

Why not? Games are for everyone; at last he got some inspiration as well :D
