I know I'm sad for missing it. Was there any notice ahead of time? I check the thread every day even though there was no update since May. Oh well, I'll keep my fingers crossed for another batch.

Thats pretty unfair! I have been following the thread since it started, and even private messaged Yeti a few times, but with no answer. Now this...
Please, if you release another batch, remember to save a copy for me this time! :(

I apologize to the people who could not get a copy.

I did my best to create this game, make it physical and share it.

There will be a free digital version of the game.
I can't do better.

I don't think under any circumstances should you be the one to apologize. I want to show my appreciation for the effort in making a worthy sequel, of which I have really enjoyed playing its demos and if all the copies have sold so fast and many of us have run out of it, it was something to wait and too much that you also decided to take some physical copies.
I just hope you keep doing things as fun as up to now and having fun, which is the important thing; and I at least feel lucky, as you decide to share your talent with us.
One of my favorite games is his Galactic Boogers since it has a gameplay that seems really fun to me and I don't know if in the end there will be a final version of this game and even a physical edition but in any case the hours of fun that I have spent playing his game no one takes them away from me and that is what this is about, having fun.
I sincerely hope you don't get discouraged by our sadness at not getting a copy and keep having fun making games and at least for me it's time to celebrate as Alex Kidd 3 has finally been finished.

Yeti, nevermind! You don´t need to apologize. Just keep Alex Kidd alive for all of us oldschool Sega fans! =)

You did what Sega should have done back in the 80s!

Cheers, man!

As the others i am a little bit dissappointed that it wasn't announced in the main development topic. Saddly you only produced 25 copies of it.

Any chance to do a new batch?

I would like to have this game as retail.

I think the demand is way higher than this little batch.

As far as i played the demo it is a great fan game.

Exactly.

Yomar is underestimating the demand for the game. I say at least 75 copies would sell without any issues.

At very very least, offer the front cover as a download, even charge for it. Make some profit out of it.

Thats exactly my point. I have pm him in the past asking for a copy whenever it would be released, and I was checking that topic every single day for months! Suddenly, BOOM! Reservations closed. Then it turns out the game was released in another thread, without any warning. Of course it is highly frustrating.

Obviously some of us are upset, but this is not meant to discourage Yeti to develop new games! On the contrary!

We became upset because we are SMS enthusiasts and want to have the full AK3 experience! We played the demos, we saw the trailers, we KNOW Yeti did an outstanding work here, and that is exactly why we all wanted to have that physical copy in our shelves, to look at it and think "YAY! who could imagine that 30 years ago!" =)

A few days ago, I exchanged some pm with Yeti, and he said he would release the rom for free, but did not say anything about the game art.

While it will be great to play the game, It would be very nice to have pdfs of the box cover, cart label and booklet, just like Kagesan, the author of Flight of Pigarus did: https://www.smspower.org/Homebrew/FlightOfPigarus-SMS

This would be awesome, so people could properly enjoy the game art, which at least to me, is a gratifying part of the retrogaming experience!

Thus, I believe I am not speaking for myself only, but for all of us which miss the official physical copies. We would appreciate to have access to the game art, to read the manual, to observe the tiny details of each illustration of the box art!

So please, Yeti, allow us enjoy your game as it deserves -- in full -- and celebrate such a milestone addition to the SMS libary! =)

Lastly, as for profit, perhaps it is illegal because AK is Sega´s ip?

I can't speak for Yeti Bomar, but I think you're missing the point here. The low number of copies is most likely not due to underestimating the demand, rather it's the maximum a single person can produce within a reasonable time frame.

That's the exact reason my self-produced initial batch of copies of Flight of Pigarus was limited to 25, too. The whole process still took weeks out of my life, and had I not done it out of sheer enthusiasm, the copies would have had to be sold at ridiculously high prices.

I can understand if someone is disappointed because of missing out, but I feel it's highly unfair to criticize Yeti for the scope, when caring enough to produce a physical edition at all is already a huge achievement in itself.

I do believe all comments I've read are perfectly understandable, but nowadays it is near impossible to choose a way of selling 25 copies that is fair enough for all of us. There are no copies for all at the moment.

But it is not the end of the world. Maybe the rom will be avaiable for free, maybe there will be a second batch, etc.
With this kind of games sometimes you miss the oportunity of ordering one for a lot of reasons.

Consider that if you had ordered a copy, another mate would have missed his/hers copy. Is it fair or not fair for you only because you ordered or not ordered one?
Remember that there were only 25 copies.

I do believe that having a brand new game for the SMS is something that only happens two or three times per year at the moment. Maybe with 2Minds publisher this could change, I really hope so. Then it is a wonderful moment that all of us might enjoy, whether or not we had ordered the game.

It is Alex, it is SMSPower and it is for the best console ever.

Regards from Spain.

Next time, you can auction them off for the highest price and let people decide how much they want to pay to get one. Then you’ll get even more criticism :)

It doesn't stop him from making another batch if demand is high enough. It would also make him some extra revenue for his work.

He could, if he liked, create a list of those interest and ask for advanced payment (like Limited Run Games) and produce only those that were paid for.

Look, I understand that you wanted a copy of Yeti's game and you're angry that you didn't get one, but did you even read what I wrote above?

It's not about money, it's about time. If it was about the money, these kinds of physical editions wouldn't exist at all.

Producing single physical copies, sourcing the material, assembling them, sending them out, is a long and laborious process. If his motivation is anything like mine, Yeti probably just wanted to see his game in physical form and decided, generously, to make a few extra copies in addition to his personal one. He has zero obligation to spend all his free time in the next year producing further ones, no matter how high the demand.

Actually it is about money, 'cause of income tax Yeti don't want to receive more than a certain amount of money.

I think the most important point here is not the ridiculously limited number of copies.

It is "WHY the game was released outside ts main thread?". That is why I missed it; thats why everyone who missed it got angry!
People were following that thread, and suddenly the game was released elsewhere, without warning!

tsp -> A ridiculous number of copies ... you're not the one producing it.
So instead of bitching, create a Master System game, physically produce it and sell it, maybe you'll understand.

I read.

If that's the case, sell the ROM, the digital media (like PDFs of the poster, any documentation, the front cover, etc). Some profit is better than no profit. At least with the ROM, a user can make their own copies AND the creator gets the money he/she deserves.

Say $10 donation for the files and it's up to the end user to make it physical.

Doesn't seem so bad.

Actually it is about money, 'cause of income tax Yeti don't want to receive more than a certain amount of money.

What about Paypal gift option or similar?

To my knowledge there was an announcement in the main thread that was deleted/edited after the reservation list was full...

That must have been very quick then!

It was. Thankfully I had subscribed to get emails for any new posts in the main thread, and despite being on the other side of the world I was right there sitting at my computer when the email rolled in so am very lucky.

I missed out on a nice copy of Alex Kidd 2 multiple times so am very happy I got there just in time for this one!
