Mahjong Solitaire

I'm pleased to announce the release of Mahjong Solitaire for the Sega Master System and SG-1000.
The classic matching game for you classic Sega console. Match the tile pairs. A tile must have a left or right side open in order to be selected for matching. Play until no more matches are possible or all the tiles have been cleared. |

Always great to see new games for SG / SC. I played this for a couple hours and this was my best round.

Brillant implementation, managed to win it on my fourth try.
Only missing maybe a bit of sound effects? |

This is very nice, I like it. Tried 3 times and did not win :D
I'd also like some sound effects. |

Congrats, a very nice game!
win on my third try (1st and 2nd was on v1.0, 3rd on v1.01) music & sounds polish this perfectly. (personally I prefer the "old" tile counter, maybe due to the italic effect which is not the best readable thing in the world ^^) |

Terrific little homebrew game! Kept me up later last night than I expected, and then this morning I finally beat it on my sixth or seventh attempt overall.
On two different boards, in the final position I had only two tiles left -- just like in Sammy138's screenshot, with one on top of the other...(sigh) |

I hope you're using PSGlib ;) Nice additions - and I still have to find time to play a proper game. |

I'm pleased to announce a new release of Mahjong Solitaire. This release includes:
- Added flower tiles - No more final tiles on top of each other - More readable count text font |

I converted the music from a midi file. I referred extensively to PSGlib and the great PSG documentation here on smspower to figure out how to play sounds. I then wrote my own code to play the converted midi file. |

this is very interesting - can you elaborate this further on a separate topic? I'd really like to see you approach, and maybe you could release the code for others to use it in their creations?

Great job. I loved the SG version already. Will be playing this for sure. It really looks lovely.
It's basically the same as the classic game Shanghai (of which the SMS also has a nice version). - Find two tiles that match. - If they can be removed by pulling them out to the left or right, you can remove them from the board. - Picture tiles like the flowers or the seasons are groups of four which can be matched freely within the group. That's all the rules there are. Just remove pairs of tiles until you've cleared the board. |

Won my first match after the fifth try. :-)

This is probably my most played homebrew so far. I really like it a lot. In fact, I prefer it to the SMS version of Shanghai, because in your game the tiles are a little bigger and easier to identify. Also, Shanghai doesn't seem to notice if there are no moves left, so that's another plus for your game.
One thing puzzles me, though: The flowers do work as expected, but the seasons seem to be absent. Instead there seems to be double the number of flower tiles. Is that intentional? |

Originally I wrote this for SG-1000 and I ran out of tile space, which is only 256 in mode 2. I ported the SMS version directly from SG, so it missed out on the seasons. Since the SMS has a 512 tile space, I can add them. I simply didn't think of it at the time.

I didn't think of that. Makes sense.

Looking forward to sticking this on my multicart to play on a real SMS :)
Thanks! |

There is this feature in Shangai too. In the menu which you can open during gameplay. |

Oh, I know, but I have to ask the game actively if there are any moves left, while under4mhz's game tells me automatically. @under4mhz: I'd be delighted if you added in the seasons, but I can understand if you don't want to tinker with the finished game anymore. It's not a big deal, and the game is thoroughly enjoyable as it is. |

I'm glad you made this game. Unlike Shanghai, I can actually win this one. Klondike is good too. I must say, having played Shanghai first, I wouldn't have opposed music during gameplay.
