PAL Releases (Total Number) - SMS
Post Posted: Wed Aug 26, 2020 9:22 am
Does anyone know a definitive number of PAL releases for the Sega Master System please? I have read around 269 but google seems to have quite a lot of conflicting information. Any additional sources would be very gratefully received along with a link perhaps of what they are. Many thanks

Nope, tried that. Every site is different. Then I find a game constantly that’s missing off the list.

There’s a lot of tec toy Brazilian stuff too , sort of unofficial

I'm not sure a definitive answer would ever be possible since there will probably always be some doubts, unconfirmed information, mistakes in research that get repeated everywhere, differing opinions in definitions, etc.

But presumably someone at SMS power could provide the best and most likely answer over anywhere else online. Ideally with footnotes for those interested in the gray areas.

We have lists at the bottom of the Games page, here's our EU list.

Do you want to count Portuguese Purple releases of TecToy stuff? How about grey imports of US titles in the UK by mainstream shops? How about the early German and Italian releases?

This looks great, thank you. It gives a really good outline of all the games and their variants if you wanted to know that.

One question, how do you know there's nothing missing? I guess I'm asking, whoever put the list together in their first place did he work at Sega or something?

Just to be clear, the Games-Releases entry on our DB are not actually complete for all systems, and for e.g. SMS euro not complete if you want to include minor variations (with/without tm sign, etc.).

Also even thought we tend to have thorough knowledge nowadays there are probably missing entries in the actual database, e.g. I haven't done a second pass on European releases, waiting to be spotted and fixed.

Other than that: it's good to note that the fields in our database are sourced from actual real world artifacts, whereas 99% of internet databases are awkwardly sourced from other databases.

ain't that the truth, it's ridiculous how much poor quality information is out there and it just gets constantly copied about and spreads around more.
