SMS 2 black screen - need info for FB7
Post Posted: Sat Jun 20, 2020 9:15 am
Hi,

last week i got an SMS2 that doesn't work.
After a few tests I was able to determine that the power supply and voltage regulator are OK.
I connected an old analog TV to the RF output and saw only a black picture.
Then I measured voltages and signals with the help of the service manual. When I checked the clock signal, I saw that a component on the board was missing. It is called FB7 and is some kind of Ferit filter. So the CPU gets no clock signal.
When I bridge the signal, the game starts, yeaaah :)

Board Number: IC BD M4Jr.PAL 2M

Greetings from Italy

There are many reasons or faults that will cause the SMS to show a black screen and no sound.

You should test FB7 with a multi-meter first to make sure it's OK and not the cause of your fault first. FB7 is a tiny coil of wire and has little to no resistance. If you get continuity from one pin of FB7 to the other then it's fine and does not need to be removed or bridged.
