SMS 2 freezing at the Sega logo...

Hello, my name is Chris.
I have a PAL Sega Master System II that I have owned from new in 1991.
I haven’t played it for many years, it’s been stored in a loft. I thought I would have a play on it so I set it up (which was hard enough to do with a modern digital tv!)
But when I power it on, the Sega logo comes up for about 5 or 6 seconds, then very briefly flashes off and back on again. And that’s all it will do.
I have taken it apart and given it a good clean, and it’s made no difference.
It has Alex Kidd in Miracle World built into it, but it does the same no matter whether I turn it on with a game cartridge in or not.
I just wondered if anyone had any experience of this, and if it’s a common fault that can be fixed or if my console is now destined for the rubbish heap.
Chris.

Could be lots of things but most likely is bad capacitors, if you can get them replaced it'll probably help.

the fact that the SEGA logo appears shows that most of the components on board are working properly - so it's probably worthy to try to fix it.
