Controller 2 swap for SG-1000 games

I want to play SG-1000 games on my game gear with a genesis or master system controller but the link port only works for player 2, is there way for me to modify the rom in a hex editor to make the game think the link port is port 1 for player 1 on my GG Everdrive?
I know there is a controller port mod but I don't trust myself to mod it.
If anyone can help it would be cool.
And if there is another solution to this please let me know.
