Reading sms roms with eprom burner instead of smsreader / smsarch

I build a low-cost eprom burner last week, in order to change revisions of my mortal kombat 2 cabinet .. I then re-wired OE and CE because these are the only 2 pins that differ from a 27c040 which i originally needed to burn for mk2 .. So , by inversing both CE and OE i read AFter burner like a charm, checked it with sms checker which labels it good , and played it in meka .. This eprom burner costed me about 6-7$ worth of commonly found parts .. and can be used to read any ROM that is maximum 512k.
The original site : http://www.zws.com/products/epromr2/epromr_stage1.html An updated version : http://salfter.dyndns.org/epromr.shtml If you build this , i suggest you follow schematics on the updated version , which puts +5v on the pulldown resistor of the data lines , instead of ground, which is the only way i got it to work .. With logic you can read any 512k or below chips , and with coding skills .. you can always update the software , and add support for up to 4megs ROMs, that's without adding another counter for 12 extra address lines .... very simple logic .. very simple software.. |
