Heard something interesting today, from a Japanese friend
" I heared that Nazca'88 is remake of arcade game LEGEND by kyu-go boueki http://www.smspower.org/sites/Momochi-20030921/untiku/legend.htm Throw money and game is looks like Wonder Boy (1st) I think there are some PCBs, but not released officialy " See the picture: Text from that page: レジェンド (LEGEND)
上の写真は実際のインストですが、手書きで味わい深い絵が興味をそそります(笑) The game was not released by some PCB are circulating (I don't know if it has been dumped). Here's a video on NicoNico http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm3541727 High-score table says: KAMEI NAKAYAMARU ABEMARE TOSHI TANA MIKI HARA The game itself is quite different from Aztec Adventure, but the similarities in the flyer is quite troubling: the control scheme, the "OH!" o the characters. The game can be played on MAME. Some people say Sega was to be the publisher, but testing didn't go so well and they dropped the game.
Legend is side-scrolling and the artwork has a not-very-Sega style, but the money throwing mechanic is there, and it's pretty obvious Aztec Adventure was originally a port of this (or a pseudo-port, like Ghost House is to Monster Bash). |

The article on Sega-Retro
https://segaretro.org/Legend says "Legend is a 1986 arcade action game by Sega and Coreland released on Kyugo-made arcade hardware. Present ROM dumps do not appear to credit either company anywhere (presumably coming from a pirate), though some sort of "readme" (according to the MAME source; do they mean the operator's manual? the README of the original dump?) lists both companies. A bootleg called Legion is also known to exist." Suggesting Coreland may be the developer? Would be worth investigating this further because we don't have any credits for Aztec Adventure. |

Legend was probably developed by Whiteboard. Chieko Aoki (Phantasy Star) is credited on this site as the planner for Aztec Adventure. I'm not sure what the source for that is. | |

I found the tweet. https://twitter.com/okunari/status/518989164725800962
He also said Tarnya (Chikako Kamatani) did the music for Nazca '88 and Fantasy Zone II (and Tensai Bakabon?). https://twitter.com/okunari/status/618384134306574336 |
