Card slot to Cart adapter
Post Posted: Wed Sep 02, 2015 10:07 am
Well that was far too easy. Tested it with a couple of different games and also my ever drive and it works mint. Probably not that useful on an export master system like mine but imagine it could more useful on a Mk III or Jap master system.

I guess this supports only those games without a mapper, right?

Nope, mappers work fine. I tested it with an actual cart of wonder boy 3. Phantasy star (via everdrive) worked fine too.

Does this mean we could even build cards with more than 32KB on board? :)

Neat! You could use Bock's SMS Dump tool without having to hot plug cartridges.

A 44 pin version would be pretty useful with an export Power Base Converter.

The games with mapper are Sega AI Computer games.
We have dumped them recently, they aren't released yet - emulators are in progress!

wasup, would it be possible for you to make me 1 or 2 of those adapters? (I only say 2 because things break and I would like backup because it's so hard for me to obtain custom hardware). That would be super useful and appreciated.

Also see how the card plug into the Sega AI Computer

That can probably be arranged. Im also working on a export (50 pin) to mk III (44 pin) adapter with a built in bios to deal with games that don't have headers, which might be just as good for a PBC.

Yep, can do. Is it alright as is or would you rather the socket coming off the end of it so the cart sits on top it when its in the AI computer?

It should be fine this way.
Does it has 15 address lines connected? (or 16/17)

I'm waiting from information from Chris Covell about the extra lines for the Sega AI games that are 256 KB without mapper. But many AI games uses mappers anyway so that's already useful. Frankly I think I could use that to avoid hotswapping Korean/Taiwan SMS cartridges when dumping, that's already a big win as some sort of games tends to crash the system 95% of the times.

Ive connected A15 to M0-7, like the island trade adapters, which seems to work fine. Some games require the reset line, which ive tied to +5v as its not present on the card slot. I haven't gone through my collection to find something that uses it to test that yet though. Once we know where A16/A17 need to go i can build you another one. Flick me a private message with your email address, or mailing address, and ill send you a couple tomorrow.

About the reset line I could suggest you a one-shot circuit with something like a 555 timer. It would hold the signal low for a set time period. considering the fact that the BIOS takes a long time to even try to read the slots, you could set something like a quarter of a second as reset time without much trouble...

If it does cause an issue i was just gona use a cap and resistor.. which will probably be good enough. You can get reset generators in small 3 pin packages too but it might not need to be that fancy

I suppose cap/resistor/diode plus a transistor to buffer it would be good.

Anyway, great job and great idea there, mate.

Just curious if you ever had any luck with this project.
