Followed update for Frogger, GG ports forgotten by ccovell now deleted. And for Chakan, same than v0.85 but with start configured on down controller 2.

I tried all conversions (182 games) on real hardware (SMS 1 RGB FR Hang On).

Games only working on SMS 2 :
- Buster Ball (you can play a bit on SMS 1 but the game crash quickly)
- Judge Dredd
- Micro Machines 2
- Pete Sampras Tennis
- SS Lucifer Man Overboard

Games not booting at all:
- Dunk Kid's
- Griffin

Games with serious glitch (not playable but boot):
- Barbie (start reset glitch)

Update for all Madou, now all in English (thanks to Supper and LIPEMCO! Translations) and now all working on real hardware.

One question, what is GG ports?

The most relevant one is the GG stereo port. The Master System has the memory control port in this spot. As a result, a game that enables stereo on GG does enable multiple memory sources at the same time which leads to an execution of non-sensical code.

Followed some update with English translation for: Coca Cola Kid, Crayon Shin Chan, Lunar, Magic Knight Rayearth 2 (also include title screen improvement), Phantasy Star Gaiden, Sylvan Tale.

I tried all patch from: https://www.romhacking.net/?page=translations&platform=12&languageid=12&...


Theses conversions need to be done again to work with there translations patch: Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon S, Eternal Legend, Kishin Douji Zenki.

Did anyone figure out how to map the Start Button to 1/Start on Player 1 Controller?

It's annoying to play on Real Hardware with 2 Controllers

Yeah, I'm keeping tabs on the thread now and I plan to do another round of controller updates, since I seem to have the knack for it, I'm just occupied with other projects right now (like transing my gender).

Any hacks with my name attached to them support the MD start button and start-on-pad2 at the least, and usually Saturn pads, pause button and starting the game without a start button too.

I would like to ask, because I'm turning into a very curious dude lately: How difficult is to implement a 2 Players mode in these GG2SMS hacks, like this one... 🤔

I mean... Sonic Drift 2 have a map... For the 2 Players mode, the map can be changed to hold the P1 portion of the game, and the P1 change to hold the P2 potion.

I know, I know... There's a lot of factors, like see if the SMS processor can hold two players nicely once the game was builded over the idea of using GG processor to hold only 1 player in mind... like working with the scrolling to the whole screen for both players... But I'm just asking...

Just to comparisson, there the Domark's F1 game for both SMS and GG, who are "kind of" the same game, where's the SMS version have a splitscreen mode for 2 Players game (1 Player mode uses the whole screen)... But the GG version lacks a link cable mode.

I just randomly came up with a tricky question: should a gg2sms version of Putt & Putter be made? A native master system version does exist, but it's completely different from the game gear one.

Note that I'm not volunteering to do that, I wouldn't even know where to start, I'm merely bringing it up because it was possibly overlooked.

I did want to make a level editor more than 10 years ago, but you told me it would be a lot of work, so I never even attempted that, my rationale being that you're way more expert than me, so your hard is my impossible.

For Game Gear cartridge connectors have you tried contacting Tototek? Iirc they sold those at some point a few years ago and might know where/how to look for more: http://www.tototek.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=22&p...

Another possible source: faulty v1 versions of Analogue's Game Gear adapter for the Mega SG. The fault is in the PCB I believe, the connector is fine! Also Analogue sourced these connectors somehow, maybe if you ask them nicely they can help you to secure a supply of your own?

edit: also these Hyperkin adapters are still commercially available and include a Game Gear cartridge connector:

I have already contacted Tototek, Analog, RetroN and many others but I either got no answer or they woudln't sell me the connectors or give me the manufacturer's details.

It's not viable to buy those adapters given the work needed to desolder the connectors.

What about building an SMS-to-Mega Drive/Genesis slot adapter and stacking those on top of it? No desoldering needed... also maybe it will let you run the Phantasy Star Fukkokuban Mega Drive cartridge on your SMS?

Also that's unfortunate they won't share their supplier information with you

Hi, I hope this forum isn't dead. I thought of doing a game, Choplifter III, so far, you don't need to convert the GG start button to button 1, it's any key. I'm going to see if I can change some of the colors and the Sega header.

TBH, I did get GG2MD recently, which also runs SMS. The games I convert works on PicoDrive. Also, I did edit the Mega Drive / Genesis header, having the classic starter.

Please don't start to pollute this thread. The patchs you posted are not conversion and useless. Pengo already have a perfect conversion (by BcnAbel76 for the Japan version, by nextvolume for the EUR version). NBA Jam have a really nice prototype on Master System.

Well I'm sorry if I did pollute this for some reason. It's my first time doing this kind of stuff. And the NBA Jam game is just a prototype, not a fully complete thing. That's why I would like to complete it.

So, I'm curious. Is the color changing a MEKA thing, color converter, or is that just Z80 coding? I'm actually impressed by how the conversions are.

Hello Stokes.

You need to add code to rom.

A routine should convert 2 byte x RGB data to 1 byte RGB data, then "capture" when palette is writting and call routine
You need to remap "Start" button to most proper
And delete access to GG ports
If possible delete garbage, and adjust tilemap to MS resolution
And really all you want to edit, add, and be possible hacking (tiles, sprites, 2 players, ...)

Hey guys. I finally did a GG2SMS hack, Sonic 2. I know you guys are about to say, "But Taylor, there's already a Sonic 2 for the SMS!" But this just a Game Gear version of the game now on the SMS. I do need to change some more codes, but in the moment, here is a complete patch. And I think this works better on Japanese consoles or a no BIOS system, because I got results that it only shows the Sega logo.

Did you add a SEGA header in you ROM? That's needed for European/American SMS.

Yes, I surely did.
And when I mean by having the Sega logo and that's it, it's doing that in the USA / European SMS.
