Major update of KiddEd

A new version of KiddEd is available. It comes with several additions, improvements and bugfixes:

  • Improved „Make Alex flash during invincibility“ hack
  • Added „Chat with the community“ menu item to join KiddEd’s Discord Server
  • Added a grid to the Sprite Editor
  • Added highlighting of hovered sprites in Sprite Editor
  • Allow zooming in more in Sprite Editor
  • Allow moving sprites with arrow keys in Sprite Editor
  • Show attributes for lethal/interactable in tileset of the Metatileset Editor
  • Redesigned Physics Editor
  • Made the physics of several enemies, Alex’s states, vehicles and missiles editable
  • Fixed a bug that could cause issues when tilesets were added/removed after swapping levels
  • Added tooltips for entities showing their names, IDs and extra data
  • Added an option to the PSGlib sound engine to adjust tempo on PAL to match NTSC
  • Added palette cycles (titlescreen/water/invincibility) to Palette Editor
  • Improved the usability of the add/remove tile handle in the Tile Editor

A new version of KiddEd is available. It comes with several additions, improvements and bugfixes:


  • Fixed alignment of sprites in Sprite Editor while holding CTRL key
  • Added the hack "Die in place until sound finishes"
  • Fixed a memory leak that could slow down KiddEd after using it for a while
  • Added explanations about entity priorities to the ReadMe files
  • In the Text Editor fallback to blue background if defined background is black
  • Added Spanish localization (thanks to kusfo)
  • Attempt to start KiddEd with system locale on first start
  • Fixed an issue with entities after continuing after swiming down into a jar
  • In Sprite Editor show weapon hitboxes when hitboxes are enabled
  • Increased space for the level editor to make offscreen entities more visible
  • Made ladders work properly in scrolling levels
  • Added circling flame to Physics Editor
  • Added missing portuguese translations (thanks to MasterEmerald)
  • Added Duration property for Merman in Physics Editor
  • Some other bugfixes and usability improvements

It's not possible from the editor itself, yet. I usually create patches individually per request.

Oh! Thank you for the reply :)

That's ok. I'm still in the messing about until inspiration strikes me stage. But thank you making such an awesome and fun little tool.

Something I've been wondering though. KiddEd sets up it's data from whatever ROM you point it at (I think). If you adjust properties within the ROM file, would it set up with that? Like graphic data, or tile numbers or something? I dunno. Just thinking :D

I'm not sure I understand? You can make changes with other external tools and they will show up in KiddEd.

Btw. if you have Discord, make sure to join KiddEd's Discord server. There are several users that you can discuss with and that can help you if you have questions. :)
