YM2413B minimum order quantity
Post Posted: Thu May 10, 2001 9:35 am
I have spoken with Yamaha and the minimum order quantity of YM2413Bs is 1000 pcs. I therefore propose to make a one-off order of 1000 chips, for which I will need to gather as much interest as possible. This isn't as mad as it sounds; the MSX community are also interested in obtaining YM2413 chips and I have mailed them seperately.

Would anyone like some YM2413 chips? The boards will come later; I have already started prototyping a tri-pad board for the SMS 1 expansion connector. Once the chips are here and the design works, I will make some PCBs.

Could you estimate the price for 1000 pcs?
If it is reasonnable, I'm not against picking a bunch myself, to be redistributed to SMS Power whenever we'll have some easy to build FM expansion unit.

Certainly Richard! It largely depends on price (what kind of price per thousand are they talking about?), but I'd be interested in getting a small quantity (<50).

Best wishes,

Mike

I'd be interested in a board and a few bare chips, what would you say would be the minimum sub-order from the 1000?

In a conversation with one of Yamaha's UK distributors, I learned that the unit price when order in 1000s is 765 Japanese Yen for the YM2413B (DIP version). The sales representative converted this into a ball-park figure of 6.50 GBP per unit, again assuming 1000, before postage costs and as a very rough first-order estimate.

This is rather a lot higher than I had anticipated; however I am investigating the situation further. There is an alternative distributor I have still yet to try.

Purchasing Small Quantities of Specialized Products
Post Posted: Fri Jun 22, 2001 1:47 pm

"I only want a few, but I have to buy 100's and I can't
find them in any online stores"

How many times has this happened to you? "SmallBuys"
was created to address this problem.

Purchasing small quantities of specialized non luxury
goods is a problem because suppliers and online shops
won't stock them for fear of them not selling.

A typical example of this would be the latest electronic
integrated circuits. Developers have to buy in quantity
just to evaluate them.

SmallBuys at http://www.SmallBuys.co.uk was created to
address this problem.

If you have a product that you're desperate to purchase
with these constraints then almost certainly there will
be many others in the same predicament.

SmallBuys links all interested parties together so that
a combined minimum quantity order can be placed.

So visit SmallBuys and place your FREE request for any
specialized products. Then visit regularly to monitor
the popularity of your request.

I have just send this message to smallbuy:

I had a e-mail conversation with a Japanese company a few months back, about the same request for those YM2413 chips.

The company is called Prime Technology,
and they told be that they have a minimum order quantity of 100 chips.

I couldn't get 100 people interested in buying those chips, but it seems you are already past that limit.

There website is located at:

www.primete.com

Hope this helps.

Greetings,
