Sega's Okunari-san who is working on Virtual Console and Sega Ages series and is a retro Sega fanatic, during his excavation has recently stumbled on a small box of treasures at Sega Japan.
(rough translation) ~~ A treasure box I initially found 6 years ago, but I had lost its sight during a move. Finally succeeded in finding it back. A pile of treasure. [note how there is a mint copy of SG-1000 Pachinko which is a famously rare game] okunari: うまれて初めてSG-1000の『パチンコI』を遊んだ。 (rough translation) ~~ I played early SG-1000 game Pachinko. For about 30 seconds. okunari: ~~ And.. SG-1000 cartridges I never saw before. okunari: パリ。 Omar did you see that? (laugh) [he is teasing me] okunari: 詳細わかる人いたら教えて下さい!w ~~ Essentially here's the content of the games. Per-country quizz cartridges. As I played them on the Mark III I could only select the first option out of 3. I guess it requires the Keyboard. As I imagine they were game used at the つくば博 exhibit in 1985. If anybody knows anything about them please let me know. That's all we know about those software for now. |

What's up with that pachinko cartridge? it looks like Safari Race with Pachinko underneath a torn label. | |

I have no idea. I imagine developers could have re-used existing prototypes or retail cartridges to stick in EPROM and do some tests.
Now wondering if maybe some of the Safari Race cartridges in the wild have a Pachinko label underneath :) Also note there is a Master System western cartridge with no label on one of the picture, I asked about it and it turned out to be World Grand Prix (can't tell if the build is final or not). |

According to a new tweet by Okunari
" ~ The cartridges I dug three years ago, apparently were used in the Tsukuba World Exposition" (in 1985) https://twitter.com/okunari/status/577656871416258560 |

While I have little hope those will be dumped publicly soon, since they exist I have added stub game pages for those:

Sega had a big presence there with a competition that ran on an 8 metre wide screen including SG-1000 games GP World, Champion Pro Wrestling, and Zaxxon. It seems that they they also had a "play corner" (google translate), where I guess SG-1000 games including these could be played. Sega produced a bilingual pamphlet for this event which shows up relatively frequently on auction sites, so I guess that quite a few people got a chance to play these. It's interesting that the pamphlet has an English translation of "Toru, The New Employee" for Shinnyuushain Tooru-Kun. |
