Factory Panic: should I make level maps?
Posted: Mon Aug 08, 2011 11:35 pm Last edited by Tom on Tue Aug 09, 2011 5:25 pm; edited 1 time in total |
Would people be interested into Factory Panic level maps?
There are 4 "rounds" of 8 "stages" each if I remember correctly. I attached the maps of the 8 stages of the first round as a demonstration; if they're liked I can proceed with the other rounds. edit: removed attachments. See rar file below. |

Pretty cool! I never cleared that game but its quite charming. Did you know the original japanese title Ganbare! Golby stands for "go, golby" as in Gorbatchev.
You could add the map directly under Maps/ section if you have Edit access, they are very simple to add. |

I just recently finished playing through Ganbare Golby! (there's no Japanese in the whole game, also no credits). It's well worth mapping, especially if you hack in a level select.
If you do try to add them to the site, the system is that you need to create 100x100px thumbnails for each stage and you'll see the upload links once the page is saved. |

I'm doing them in the old way, e.g. I'm playing through the game again after many years :)
Later today I will see if I can finish this. |

I found it to be pretty easy, more so if you have savestates.

Yeah, it's definitely easy, I could beat it several times even on my real Game Gear almost two decades ago :)
edit: ah, savestates. Is there anything you can't do by hex editing them? :3 |

Alright, I mapped all the levels. I will upload them in the maps section, but I prefer to get a green light beforehand just in case, so I attached a rar file, for quality testing, to say so. If Maxim and/or Bock think these are good enough, I'll proceed with the upload.
I always like to get a second opinion in case there are any mistakes I didn't spot. (I already prepared the 100×100 thumbnails as well, by the way, so I am really all set once these are approved) |

They seem fine. Also, hex editing savestates is a poor analogue of hex editing in the RAM viewer in Meka :)

Don't wait for a greenlight ! Its easier just to try doing stuff, if problems are found then Wiki if always editable anyway.
You can use pngout to reduce .png file size to mininum. |

Done: http://www.smspower.org/Maps/FactoryPanic-GG, please let me know if I did it right, as this is the first time I actually upload maps on the wiki (my Putt & Putter maps were uploaded by Maxim).
I know I didn't need a green light, but I'm always afraid to do something wrong :) |

Great stuff. You might want to submit to http://www.vgmaps.com if you like that sort of thing. I look forward to future contributions :)
