Jang Pung 3 (SMS/KR), Monaco GP (SG), Othello Multivision BIOS

We have good stuff today.
Last November after laments due to a missed auction for Korean games I decided on the spot to go to Korea to do some hunting there. Sightseeing and scouting shops with help from local specialist Leadkun I could find several undumped cartridges in the most improbable place ever (more on that later). Leadkun also donated a few things, including this little gem: Jang Pung 3 for the Samsung Gam*Boy released late 1994, may be the pinacle of Korean developper Sanghun's effort on the Master System, also responsible for Samgukji III and GP Rider among others, Jang Pung 3 is actually very similar to Samgukji III (also known as Sangokushi III) in style and execution, both being relatively polished 8 megabits fighting games with elements recurrents among both games. But what makes Jang Pung 3 so special may be its fantastically creative story: heroes from all different nations uniting against a nazi robot lizard from Leipzig. One can't possibly write a better plot. (The game actually depicts swastikas in a way usually unseen in video games.) Thanks to Leadkun for his donation! Next we have both correct dumps of Monaco GP for the SG-1000, both 24 KB and 32 KB versions of the game. Now watch out because this will become confusing: - The 24 KB version has a small, plain text logo whereas the 32 KB has a graphics logo. - The ROM image for the 24 KB version is actually 40 KB because the way the cartridge mapping is setup and to preserve compatibility with existing emulators and ROM image formats. So there is 16 KB of data, followed by 16 KB of redundant data and then another proper 8 KB. So the game is really 24 KB here (and that is what is advertised on the box). - Some the Japanese versions advertised as 24 KB seems to contains the 32 KB version. - Now to add some confusion there is already a ROM image of the 24 KB version (40 KB file size) floating on the internet since many years. Except that version instead of the redundant data has left-over of a Safari Hunting ROM image (unrelated game) which is probably due to being originating from some AU/NZ pirated version of the game. We are now releasing the clean 24 KB version to replace that one, from now labelled as a bad/hacked dump. Don't panic, here's a summary! SG1 8572d73a Monaco GP [24k] ; new correct dump released today
SG1 da2d57f3 Monaco GP [32k] ; new correct dump released today SG1 72542786 Monaco GP [24k] [BAD] ; old dump, incorrect data. Last but not least, digging in the early obscurity of 1983, we have a surprise from fellow hardware hacker and contributor Enri who managed to dump the System ROM of an Othello Multivision (SG-1000 compatible system). The name of this system derives from its embedded Othello software and its dedicated micro-keyboard to play the game. THIS PERIPHERAL IS NOT EMULATED YET, so the game is not playable as of today. Waiting for emulators authors to update their software (I will try to update Meka accordingly). Also note that an improved, stand-alone cartridge version of Othello was released in 1985. It plays with the regular controller and the CPU has been improved. ( As the site is now transitioning to its new structure, there is no ROM download link from the games page yet. Please check the usual download page or mirrors to retrieve the files in the meanwhile. ) |

Here's the special attack list from the manual. I don't understand the Korean here so I am just typing the combinations.

Can you post the manual scans, please? ^_^ By the way, the movelist you put here have some mistakes... I tested all commands and there is the correct movelist. hi,
I registered to thank you for the efforts in dumping old Sega carts and to let you know that latest MESS [1] supports the brand new OMV bios dump (thanks to Curt Coder's work) I'm not sure everything is fully working, but if you are interested, our code is the following http://git.redump.net/cgit.cgi/mess/tree/src/mess/drivers/sg1000.c Just a couple of questions: 1. we would like to credit the dumper for this: would "Enri" be fine for him to be credited? 2. was the unit a OMV FG-1000 or FG-2000? also, does anyone know which are differences between the two models? Hi, good to hear. I haven't had time myself to give it a check.
- "Enri" is fine I guess as he's been always using this nickname. He is on the forum if you want to ask but only speaks Japanese. - The unit was a FG-2000. Afaik FG-1000 wasn't dumped but I think it may be the same software (of course it should be dumped). |
