The Game Gear unlicensed/pirate/bootleg cartridge picture/infos thread

Those come up often so here's a thread where we can post pictures for unlicensed/pirate cartridges for the Game Gear. Generally the xx-in-1 kind of cartridge, but there's also a fair share of single game carts going around.

How is that Olympic Gold different from my one? Even the box looks identical to me... Do I happen to have a rare game, by chance? :o
|
Posted: Sun Apr 11, 2010 1:37 pm |
It should be a mistake. But its difficult to see if the cartridge says "SEGA" properly on the bottom.
However it could be just a "fake" game as in cheap copies of the box and labels, difficult to see from that picture. I have those games at home so I'll check in a few months. |

Does anyone else have a problem with running the Super 53-in-1 game?
Posted: Sat Apr 24, 2010 9:36 am
|
I have an old game gear console and that is the only one that can run the 53-in-1 game...why is that and how do you know which ones can run pirated games?
Is there any way to mod the game gear to cooperate? |

If your GG shows the blue licence screen on startup then it won't play some pirate games. You can mod it but the method depends on the type of board.

Mod the Game Gear

Ok, so do you have any idea where to find out how to mod it?
By different boards you mean the 1 or 2 ASIC versions right? (I have a few different Game Gears) |

Multi-game pirate with games like Street Fighter 2, a Mario game (pretty good, actually), Bomb Jack and some other games I don't remember.

Received a new pirate in the post today called Super 2 in 1.
I was pleased to find that it contained two Master System games - Double Dragon and Ghouls n Ghosts. You have to power cycle the GG to swap between games. |

Here's a 60-in-1. The price is too high for me to bother buying this bulk lot.

Got a new one this week - Galaxy Force, a conversion of the SMS version.
It's a loose cart and was £4 on a BIN auction. |

Another new one today - a 10 in 1 cart with a reset switch. There's no menu - power cycling the GG switches games, or you can hit the switch.
It has 10 genuine GameGear games on it - no SMS or SG games. They are: Ninja Gaiden, Galaga 91, Monaco GP, Shinrinjo, Halley Wars, Mah Jong, Pac-Man, Columns, Pengo and Woody Pop. |
|
|

Does it have a selection screen, or is it a multi-rom-cartridge?
|
Posted: Thu Sep 09, 2010 3:17 pm |
There's no select screen - power cycling changes game, or you can hit the switch. The game you're playing will freeze for a few seconds and then the next game comes on.

Tried the two above yesterday. 1000 in 1 is really poor - just three actual GG games (Columns, Pengo and Woody Pop) and about 12 SG games.
"Mega Games" is one of the better multi-carts - Sonic Chaos, Donald Duck: Deep Duck Trouble, Indiana Jones, Riddick Bowe Boxing, Robocop 3 and then a handful of SG games. |

Found those two (sold to ebay user Sega_Game_Gear_God )

Yep that seller jayhui is the best. I've bought tons of Japan GG CIB"s and GG pirates off that guy. Sega_Game_Gear_God occassionally beats me to him when he posts new stuff which is about once a month. I have emailed him to let me know when he posts new listings but he hasn't responded. I have a cool Fatal Fury GG pirate CIB coming to me from him that I bought a few weeks ago. Can't wait to add that one to my collection.

GG Bootleg Cartridges

Hi folks,
Here is a handful of Bootlegged GG cartridges that I've collected over the past year. I purchased a few of these cartridges to gather Logic analysis data, using my Logic Analyzer during the period I was reverse engineering the SEGA 315-5912 Mapper. My Buddy John and well know YouTube SEGA Game Gear collector "xTHExSTIGx" traded some of these to help me out with my Flash cart project. Check out his YouTube Channel, he has an awesome collection and great Reviews. http://www.youtube.com/user/xTHExSTIGx Also here is a Video of the inside of the Bootlegged Cartridges he sent to me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHslcw0jl-U Regards, -Gerry |

I have multiple GG pirate carts with Super Mario Bros hacks on them. They are all just like SMB but much more difficult.

Here is the 68 in 1 Game selection Menu. Along with a couple of Screen shots of the "SuperBoy 2" Game that is the same exact game as the "Mario Bros 2" title on this cart. -Gerry |

There's also Super Boy 4, which is quite nice looking for an SMS game: http://www.smspower.org/Games/SuperBoy4-SMS |
